Looking out over Jordan to the Holy Land.

Happy Easter!

Dear Friends and Alumni of Roy & Dora Whitman Academy,
Happy Easter!  We’ve been experiencing unusual cold and rainy temperatures here in Jordan which have resulted in a phenomenal spring display of flowers.  On a hike this weekend on the recently opened Jordan Trail, (, between Pella and Dar Edis, I was overwhelmed by the amazing beauty that Jordan has hidden away in its hills and vales. At the end of the trail, we came upon a historic site, “The Jesus Cave”.  Local tradition claims that Jesus took refuge in the olive press cave when He was escaping from those who were trying to kill Him.  It could also be that the cave was one of His wilderness refuges to which He retreated so many times in His life.  In this Easter season, we meditate on Christ's walk toward Jerusalem, toward his sacrificial giving of Himself, and toward His unwavering love for us.

This month, we celebrate the resounding victory of the Roy & Dora Whitman Academy cross country running team.  After a remarkable regimen of bi-weekly 6 a.m. and Sunday running practices, the A team was able to place 1st among all the school teams participating in the race and 2nd overall.  The B team placed 6th among the school teams and 15th overall.  We are so proud of them!  Their coach, Hanna Nuqul, reported that they stood firm and demonstrated godliness during the race while other competitors jeered them, pushed them aside, and tried to physically block their routes.  They pressed on in their pursuit of excellence in physical, mental, and emotional stamina by encouraging their teammates.  The whole course of this race is an excellent metaphor for the “race that is set before us” as we struggle through life’s many challenges as we walk with Christ.
Our featured alumni this month, Sami Nuqul, currently resides in Palmer, Alaska, USA. After graduating from R&DWA in 2007, he attended the University of Alaska extension campus in Palmer. He transferred to the Anchorage campus for his last 3 years while he finished up his mechanical engineering degree.  During his university years, he participated in a Navigator’s training camp for international students in Colorado and completed an internship at a paper factory in Jordan. For the last 2 years, he has worked as a geographic drafter in a surveyor’s office in Palmer.

Prayer Requests
Since we realized the overwhelming demand for seats at R&DWA in the upcoming school year, we have been scouring the countryside for solutions to be able to provide spaces.  Please pray that
1. God would supply our needs according to His riches in glory!
2. Please also keep our staffing needs in prayer. We are still looking for 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and elementary ESL teachers as well as a guidance counselor and a music teacher.  We also have a “dream position” for a curriculum and instruction coordinator.
Thank you so much for your prayers!
Want to bless others, give back a bit and invest in the lives of future students? In September 26, 2017, we are participating in the ACSI Giving Day fund drive.  We will keep you posted with more details as the time approaches.
