Winter Break Expectations

Fall semester is at the close and most students will be heading home. Clear expectations and some compromise will go a long way to ensure a smooth and enjoyable break! Read more from Sandy Talbott, Parent and Family Liasion.
Pitt Weather Updates
The William Pitt Union Panther knows to bundle up for winter weather! 
Please encourage your students to do the same. Pitt rarely closes because of cold temperatures or inclement weather. Thanks to UPTV students for the knit swag! 

Winter Recess Move-out Reminder

  • To purchase bus tickets, click here.
  • All residence halls will close at noon on December, 20. Apartment-style residences will remain open.
  • It is encouraged that students leave for winter break within 24 hours of their last final exam.
  • The residence halls will be closed from December 20-January 3 and will reopen at 2 p.m. on January 4.
  • Students do NOT have to move all of their personal belongings home


Parking and Transportation Update


Beginning Thursday, December 17 and ending on Sunday, December 21 the following lots will be available for moving out: Schenley Quad Meters, U lot for Upper Campus, Litchfield Towers Garage, BQ meters and SN meters.

Internship and Career Assistance Webinar


Monday, January 11 @ 7-7:45 p.m. Eastern Time. Recent survey results indicate that readers want more information about internships, career guidance, and employment opportunities for students. We are happy to announce that Parent and Family Resources will partner with panelists from Pitt’s Career Development and Placement Assistance office to provide this information. A live Q&A session will follow a brief presentation. Advanced registration is required. This webinar will be recorded and available for future viewing.

Grants and Scholarships

PittAdvantage Grant: Here is one more reason for students to engage in Pitt’s Outside the Classroom Curriculum (OCC) — potential of receiving a $1,500 grant towards a summer study abroad, unpaid internship, or service learning experience! Applications will be available in early January with a deadline of March 1.

Are you Expecting Scholarships from Outside Organizations?: Many students receive scholarships from organizations outside the University. Please follow these directions to ensure that they are credited to your student’s account. 

The Benefits of Being an Authorized Payer in PittPAY

Students can authorize parents, guardians, spouses, and others access to their student account and the ability to make online payments in PittPAY, the University’s billing and payment system. Read more on the advantages of PittPAY (Questions? Contact us at payments@pitt.edu).

Spring Semester Service and Leadership

  • MLK Day of Service: On Monday, January 18, students are invited to engage in community service both on and off-campus to benefit local nonprofit agencies. Sign ups are open!
  • Panther Leadership Summit: Saturday, February 6, 2016, is Pitt's annual leadership conference, featuring a morning program of engaging, accomplished alumni speakers followed by afternoon breakout sessions. Your student can register here. 
  • Alternative Break: The Office of PittServes' sponsors opportunities to get-a-way and give back through service over Spring Break (March 6-12). Discuss Alternative Break with your student — travel to Tennessee, Washington, D.C., or stay local in Pittsburgh to make a difference in these communities!
