Another nail in the coffin of Netflix's relationship with Disney was hammered home this week as its remaining Marvel original series, The Punisher and Jessica Jones, were cancelled. Netflix also launched a new production hub in Toronto, leasing eight local sound stages. In Australia, Netflix has agreed to include its app in operator Foxtel's set top boxes, while Spain's Telefónica this week touted the combination of its pay TV offer with Netflix as 'unbeatable', citing strong growth in customers as a result of integrating the streamer into its set-tops.


Broadcaster-led streaming services are still seeing success, with CBS hitting 8m US subscribers to its portfolio of direct-to-consumer services, while Viacom has partnered with sports-driven streaming service fubo.TV to offer a selection of its channels through the provider.

France's Canal+ is reportedly mulling a bid for sports broadcaster, Bein Sports, which has been embroiled in piracy concerns of late, recently pulling out of bidding for F1 rights in the Middle East for this reason.

Hot on the heels of Japanese public broadcaster NHK, Italian pubcaster Rai has announced plans to broadcast parts of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in 8K resolution, making it the first European broadcaster to commit to do so. While 8K TV sets may not be affordable for many consumers, a similarly pricey tech purchase could be the $5,995 VR headset launched by Finnish startup Varjo this week, the device is aimed at the aerospace and automotive sectors.
