UK regulator Ofcom will not conduct a formal assessment into BBC's deal with Discovery, which was first announced in April and gives BBC full ownership of UKTV entertainment channels including comedy channel Dave. Ofcom said the deal has already been safeguarded from competition distortion by existing regulation.

Amazon is reportedly mulling a bid for prepaid US mobile operator, Boost, which T-Mobile and Sprint may be selling off in the hopes of improving their potential merger's regulatory chances.  Netflix has begun testing an Instagram-like feed of video extras in its mobile app, including trailers, photos and alerts for upcoming shows. Apple is marking the end of an era, confirming it will be discontinuing its iTunes service, instead launching three separate macOS apps: Music, TV and Podcasts.

Spanish operator Telefónica has launched its domestic OTT offering, Movistar+ Lite, a new service which, for €7.99 per month, allows customers of all Spanish operators to access content that was previously only available to Movistar subscribers.

Eastern European telecoms provider United Group has struck a €220m deal with Tele2 to acquire the Croatian branch of its mobile business. Vivendi has placed a €2.1 billion bond to finance the acquisition of European pay TV group M7 by its film and television subsidiary, Canal+ Group. Viacom-owned Pluto TV has partnered with US Telco Cox Communications to make the Pluto TV app available on Contour and Contour Stream Player.

FloSports, a live-streaming and on-demand niche sports provider, has raised €41.6m from a new round of funding, led by current investor Discovery and including investment from WWE. FIFA predicts that the Women's World Cup, which kicks off in France on 7th June, will reach up to one billion viewers worldwide. A record-breaking 62 broadcasters have rights to the tournament.
