The US could be about to enter a streaming price war after Hulu dropped the monthly price of its SVoD service by $2, a week after rival Netflix increased its domestic prices by the same amount. Hulu will increase prices for its streaming linear multichannel platform at the same time. Netflix has become the first streaming service to join the Motion Picture Association of America, filling the hole left by Fox since its acquisition by Sky. Elsewhere, Sony is shuttering its ad-funded streamer, Crackle, in Latin America and Viacom has acquired Sky and Samsung-backed AVoD service Pluto TV for more than $300m.

In Europe, the Swiss Federal Office for Culture is hoping to launch a free streaming service dedicated to Swiss films, while Mediapro has secured Spanish rights to the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup soccer, held in Qatar. In the UK, DTT platform, Freeview, has launched an app which allows live-streaming of public broadcaster channels, and Mobile Network Operators Vodafone and O2 have extended their network sharing arrangement to include 5G in the hope it will enable them to roll out services to customers more quickly and cheaply.

Mexico's Televisa has partnered with Endemol Shine and Mediapro to produce new high-end content in a bid to take on Netflix, while South East-Asian streamer, Viu, which has presence in the Middle East, has unveiled a new Saudi original, Doon, geared at millennials.
