Fall 2019 Events

  • On November 14th at 7 p.m. we welcome Dick McEvoy who will do a pastel demo for us.  Dick is past president of CT Pastel Society and is on the board of Pastel Society of America.  He has made many trips to France to paint en plein air and has exhibited in shows in France, Italy and Taiwan among others.
  • ELECTIONS:  Also at our November 14th meeting we will have our annual meeting where we vote on various members of the Board.  Past President Eva Dykas has served as Vice President for many years and will step down this year.  We are pleased that Bivenne Staiger will serve as Vice President (she also does our publicity).  I have served as President for several years and will continue to do so if no one comes forward.  If anyone would be interested in serving as president or co-president with me, that would be great!  Continuing to serve are Adele Santangelo, Secretary; Bonnie Desaulnier, Membership; Sharon Paddock, Treasurer; Steve Cronkite, website; and Rene Gugliemino, Hospitality.   All of these people have served for several years and would welcome it if someone was willing to take their place.  We are accepting nominations from the floor for all of these positions.
  • FIELD TRIP:  Jackie Tomassone is organizing a field trip to see the prolific artwork of CT artist Frank Federico.  Frank passed away last year at age 90.  He has received numerous awards from the Pastel Society of America among many others.  The Art Institute of Maplebrook is having a large, retrospective exhibition of his artwork which will include his oils, pastels, acrylic and watercolors (no charge for entry).  On Thursday, November 21 we will carpool to the Art Institute at Maplebrook, 5142 Rt. 22, Amenia, NY.  We will meet at the rear parking lot of Ursel’s Web, 140 Washington Street, Middletown at 9:30 and carpool from there.  It is about an hour and half drive.  We will have lunch in the Amenia area as well.  We plan on leaving Amenia at 2:00.  If you are interested in going on this field trip or for further info, call Jackie at 860-635-4469 so she can get an idea of how many will attend.
  • DURHAM LIBRARY MEMBER SHOW:    Thank you to the Durham Library, 7 Maple Avenue, which is hosting us for an exhibition this December and to Chairman Adele Santangelo  who arranged this member show for us.  Since it is a smaller venue we can accept one entry per member and that entry should be approximately 16x20 or smaller.  Entry forms available on our website.  For this show please volunteer for receiving, hanging or refreshments at our next meeting on Nov. 14th – thanks!
Receiving, Monday 12/2  from 3-7 pm
              Hanging, Tuesday 12/3  10-noon
