Your February 2019 Newsletter!

Sponsored by The Woodlands United Methodist Church

Our next meeting will be held on

Monday, February 4th
Gathering time: 6:45-7:10,
Meeting starts at 7:10
Welcome Table:  Mauricio Ramirez and Don Peterson
Snacks: Lisa Griffis, Courtney Murray, and Mary Moody
Beverages: Anita Wren
Heather and Jamie Schneider - Black-and-White Photography
Jamie and Heather (Folk Photography) were named in the list of the 30 Rising Stars of Wedding photography in 2016 by Rangefinder Magazine. They were also the Grand Prize Winners of the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International 2016 Competition.

Their dedication to family and service is the driving force behind their business, which has expanded beyond just wedding photography into black-and-white photos. Jamie and Heather bring the same vision and attitude from their documentary wedding style into the studio. This has allowed for a whole new experience for those who are wanting photographs of their loved ones made into true pieces of art.

(Comment: This will be a great program to combine with the February 10th "Composition - The Fine Art of Seeing" SIG wherein we will learn how to "see" a photo in black-and-white before we shoot it!)
come along twice this year

we need YOU to take some pictures!

The first (the Adult Spring Fling Dance) will be Saturday, March 30; 5:00 to 8:30 PM. They need 3 photographers for this dance: two to take candid shots; one to work with another photographer for portraits. This will take place at the Loft (the large warehouse-type building at the northeast corner of the church property), and all lights will be on to aid the candid shots. We currently have one committed photographer for this dance. We need another one more volunteer to partner with the photo photographer they are providing (great fun!). Here is the full information. Please let us know if you can help! Email us at

You will truly enjoy this event!
It's time to RENEW your memberships!
  • For the first time, dues will be increasing on April 1st to the still low price of $20 for a single membership, and $25 for a family membership. Renew your membership before April 1st (at the February or March meeting) to receive our still VERY discounted membership price!
  • After the March 4th meeting, everyone on our Facebook page who has not renewed will no longer have access to our very active and informative private Facebook page.
  • Field trips and workshops, which require membership to attend, will cost more!
  • You will  not receive an e-copy of our wonderful photo directory!
Remember - membership is calendar year to calendar year. As a courtesy, however, if you join during the fall (October through December) we give you membership for the upcoming year. Thus, if you joined in October, you are a member through 2019!
Some brief notes from the January 26th
Annual Volunteer Advisory Board meeting (31 present)
  1. Volunteer jobs will now be documented in order to ease volunteer transitions.
  2. Due to the cost of speakers, donations to missions and miscellaneous items, the Camera Club lost money this year. As a result, our donations to the church will be in the form of our photography and those related costs, and membership dues will be slightly increased to $20 (single) and $25 (family).
  3. Volunteers:
    1. Heinz Valbruch will join Shirley Voelker as our Website masters. Changes coming!
    2. Jim and Betty Patton will oversee our next Photo Exhit in early 2020.
    3. Jim Patton will join Carolyn Townley in producing our PowerPoint show.
    4. Heinz Valbruch will take over the monthly Newsletter, starting in March
    5. Lisa Griffis will handle the annual picnic - we  need a good location, preferable a home!
There was much discussion and many good ideas (including reports by leaders of the four current SIG's) regarding the future direction of this club. A full report will be coming out during the next few weeks. If you would like a copy (this is your club!), please let us know:

What is the Mentor Program?
Each month many TWCC members share their knowledge and time both informally and formally as “mentors” to other club members. It may be by e-mail, phone, or even in person at different locations around The Woodlands. Learning from a friend or neighbor is one of the best experiences in a club like ours. To see who’s available to help you grow your photo skills visit and click the link for mentors and their specialities.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. (Ephesians 6:12-18)

Our Purpose is to bring together people interested in exploring the wonder of God’s creation through the lens of a camera. Members of all ages encourage one another and share their efforts to record nature, travels, people and memories. Anyone is welcome to join this club. We are here to teach one another through enjoyable activities and meetings, to make new friendships through a common interest, to support The Woodlands United Methodist Church through our photography, and to glorify God through it all.
Meeting Information: The first Monday of each month (except holidays), Aldersgate Hall at the southeast end of The Woodlands United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Grogan’s Mill and Lake Woodlands Drive. We start gathering around 6:45; the meeting starts promptly at 7:10.

We're looking forward to seeing you on
Monday, February 4th
