What's Inside?

Kathy Adams Clark - Deep Dive into Depth-of-Field

Speaker at the monthly club meeting on December 7th, 2020

Most photographers have a basic understanding of depth-of-field. Set the camera to f/2.8 and the background is soft. Set the camera to f/22 and everything in the scene is sharp. Yet, depth-of-field is really more complicated, varied, and interesting.

Join Kathy Adams Clark for this program to learn how depth-of-field changes based on the lens you’re using, how close you are to your subject, and more.

This program will also touch on focus stacking to achieve more depth-of-field.

Introducing Zoom

We will be using Zoom for our Online Socially Distant Meeting, so if you haven’t used Zoom already we encourage you to give Zoom a try to test it out a day or two in advance. To set up Zoom for the first time on your device — computer, smartphone or tablet — just click the link for the meeting (above). Unless someone else is trying the program at the same time you will see only yourself in the window once Zoom has been set up. If you have problems send us an e-mail at

Shoot & Share

Please send in your photos (maximum of 3) by
Friday midnight, December 4th (no later!)

You do not need to resize them. If you do resize your large photos, the long side should be at least 1920 pixels in order to fill the screen.

Submit your photos by uploading them to the SnS Dropbox at

You will receive a reply e-mail from Dropbox that your photos have been uploaded. Be sure to watch for it. If you have questions or problems with this new process send an e-mail to

At the meeting, briefly please tell us
(1) why you chose these photos,
(2) where you took them, and
(3) mention any special camera or editing techniques that you used.

Remember: This is not a contest. We are not looking for professional shots. We just want to get to know you better through your pictures!

miniSIG Nikon Z Mirrorless

The "mini SIG" group of TWCC members using Nikon Z mirrorless cameras (Z50, Z6, Z7. etc.) are continuing to meet, both on Zoom and masked up and distanced in person. And this month they added their own private Facebook group.

Many of the 19 members join virtually monthly on Zoom to discuss camera settings, lens choices, and other useful information. In addition, small groups gather and shoot together locally, experimenting with lenses and composition.

If you are considering purchasing one of the Nikon mirrorless Z family cameras or know someone else who is, let them know. They’re willing to share their experience and knowledge to help with your decision. Several joined the SIG even before making their purchase.

Just e-mail:

miniSIG Canon R Mirrorless

More and more, photographers are changing from DSLR to EOS mirrorless cameras. The Canon R SIG is a new and growing group of 8 now, already with its own private Facebook page!

Why do we all love the mirrorless? Well, we can give you a long list of reasons, but basically, it’s FUN to take pictures! The focusing is spot-on, and the ability to change lighting right then-and-there while you are seeing exactly what you are photographing are just two of the many great reasons.

If YOU are interested in learning more about this group or the Canon EOS cameras, please send an email to We’d love to hear from you!

Mentor Program

Each month many TWCC members share their knowledge and time both informally and formally as “mentors” to other club members. It may be by e-mail, phone, or even in person at different locations around The Woodlands.

Learning from a friend or neighbor is one of the best experiences in a club like ours. To see who’s available to help you grow your photo skills visit

As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Isaiah 55:10-11 and John 1:14
