Alan Murphy - Birds in their natural environment

Speaker at the monthly club meeting on August 3rd, 2020

Much of Alan's spare time became devoted to chasing the perfect shot. His artistic background cultivated his creative use of perches with uncluttered backgrounds and excellent lighting. Over the years this became Alan's signature: gorgeous perches paired with beautiful birds showcasing their natural environment with simple elegance.

What began as a peaceful and passionate hobby, Alan has refined into a photography business. Besides the numerous photographs he loves to acquire, Alan is equally enthusiastic about leading workshops and teaching other photographers how to capture the perfect image.

He is an award-winning photographer with numerous publications, a Nikon Professional Service Member, a Wimberly Professional Service Member, and the author of several e-books and educational videos. He enjoys traveling the country, speaking at festivals and photo clubs. Alan and his wife, Kim, raised their children in the Houston area, travel domestically and abroad, enjoy nature and their rescue dogs.

miniSIG Nikon Z Mirrorless

Our "mini SIG" group of TWCC members using Nikon Z mirrorless cameras (Z50, Z6, Z7) have continued to meet on Zoom during the current restrictions.

Our 14 members join virtually as we discuss camera settings, lens choices, and other useful information. We will continue to meet virtually at least monthly to learn more about our specific cameras.

If you are shooting with a Nikon Z camera or know someone else who is, let us know. We’d love for you or your friend to join our group!

Mentor Program

Each month many TWCC members share their knowledge and time both informally and formally as “mentors” to other club members. It may be by e-mail, phone, or even in person at different locations around The Woodlands.

Learning from a friend or neighbor is one of the best experiences in a club like ours. To see who’s available to help you grow your photo skills visit

and click the link for mentors and their specialities.

To add yourself to this program, please contact Andy Howard at mentor@TheWoodlandsCameraClub.org

About Us

Our Purpose

is to bring together people interested in exploring the wonder of God’s creation through the lens of a camera. Members of all ages encourage one another and share their efforts to record nature, travels, people and memories. Anyone is welcome to join this club. We are here to teach one another through enjoyable activities and meetings, to make new friendships through a common interest, to support The Woodlands United Methodist Church through our photography, and to glorify God through it all.

Meeting Information

The first Monday of each month (except holidays), Aldersgate Hall at the southeast end of The Woodlands United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Grogan’s Mill and Lake Woodlands Drive. We start gathering around 6:45; the meeting starts promptly at 7:10.

The Woodlands United Methodist Church
I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever.

Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever.

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.

One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.

They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty — and I will meditate on your wonderful works.

The LORD is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does.

The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth

He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.

The LORD watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.

My mouth will speak in praise of the LORD. Let every creature praise his holy name for ever and ever.

Psalm 145: 1-5, 17-21.
