Painting a Pond at Dusk

My husband and I don't often go to the Public Gardens in downtown Halifax however, we stopped by for a visit on May 18th in this beautiful flower-filled park (open from April through November). A few minutes after we walked in, one of the officials of the Garden came up to us and apologetically explained the place was about to close because it was a half hour before sunset.

We weren't required to rush out in a panic, so since we were in the process of taking photos, we continued snapping pics, slowly strolling towards the exit - and we caught some beautiful light in the process!

I was very excited to paint from one of my photos and so I began not many days later.
An unusual background colour ... mainly because I didn't think my final colour was going to be mostly blue.
Working on the background. NOTE - even though it's rarely noticed, what IS noticed is if you've not dealt with the background with as much effort as you have the foreground.
The process of painting the flowers was long and arduous actually. I admire anyone who paints flowers well - it takes more patience than you might imagine.
Here's the final painting ... I hope I caught the mode at dusk.
