Every month, we bring you a selection of works available to purchase with Art Money from galleries around Australia.
This month we've asked independent Curator and Arts Writer Chloé Wolifson to curate a selection of her top Stockroom picks. Chloé has worked in the fine arts sector for over a decade, curating exhibitions, performances and panel discussions, analysing the international art market and writing for a number of institutions and magazines. From emerging to blue chip, Indigenous to international artists, Chloé lets us in on the works she connects with and why.
I am drawn to the tardis-like transplanting of the structure in Cut-backs which raises questions about our place in time and space.

I recently encountered Fletcher’s paintings in the exhibition Time of Others at Singapore Art Museum. His scenes of on-point mid-century décor inhabited by Pacific tribal objects are both witty and sinister – this painting would not hang benignly on the living-room wall.

Gascoigne’s road sign works are iconic for a reason. Few non-Indigenous artists have captured the Australian landscape with such strength, simplicity, poetry and intelligence.

Kimber combines the traditional fresco techniques he has studied, with imagery adapted from a cross-section of visual history. The resulting work has an appealing tactility and I enjoy the dynamic and playful composition.

Guan Wei brings together Chinese, Indigenous Australian, postcolonial and multicultural histories to comment astutely on contemporary Australia. The iconography draws the eye around the vessel and invites the mind to connect elements and concoct narratives.

Once the composition grabbed me I discovered that the work references the main dreaming songline of Mina Mina near Lake Mackay, the karrpanu (digging stick), in which women travelling eastward into tribal lands brought everything into existence along the way through singing and dancing, leaving the knowledge to be uncovered by others with the karrpanu.
