(Philoptochos Logo)In June, Philoptochos begins preparing for the Bake Sale at the Taste of Greece 2021!

CHRIST IS RISEN! As you know, the Taste of Greece 2021 is "A GO", and Philoptochos is beginning Bake Sale preparations in June. We're setting up our classroom staging area, cleaning the contents of the Philoptochos kitchen closet, and baking kourambiethes and baklava, and need your involvement.

Additionally, the Women's Book Club discussion is on June 8 and the quilt top project comes to a close in June. Details for all activities are below.

At our recent Spring Finale, elections were held for the 2021-2023 Philoptochos Board and I am happy to officially announce the members here: Sandra Anderson, Jennifer Coin, Mary Ellis, Cathy Forchas, Lisa Gallmeyer, Paulette Hastings, Jayne Klatt, Connie Kouzes, Donna Psihos, Alexis Rouches, Carol Smith, Andrea Tiggas, Dena Tortorelis, Kathleen Wendland and myself. I appreciate their willingness to serve and look forward to working with them in the coming term.

I also want to give a special thank you to outgoing board members who have provided leadership and talent to the organization, including Stephanie George, Sofia Johnson, Tina Menter, and Melpo Murdakes. I am grateful for their service to Philoptochos in order to help those in need.

(Taste of Greece Logo)FESTIVAL BAKE SALE PREP BEGINS!
This year's Bake Sale is co-chaired by Cathy Forchas and Paulette Hastings. To be cautious related to the pandemic, we are reducing the number of Bake Sale offerings in 2021 to parishioner-made baklava, koulouria, kourambiethes and melomakarona and purchased amygdalota and koks. If this changes, we will let you know! Here are June happenings:

BRING BAKE SALE EQUIPMENT TO NURSERY: Thursday, June 3, 6:30-8pm
On this evening, volunteers will carry boxes up stairs leading from the storage room under the altar, then use carts to bring them to the Nursery. Four helpers are requested. (Due to Vacation Church School, the move into the 4-year old classroom will happen at a later date.) To volunteer, contact Cathy (cforchas@yahoo.com) or Paulette (pmg@sisyphuscafe, talk/text 952-564-8388).

CLEAN THE PHILOPTOCHOS KITCHEN CLOSET: Monday, June 5, 5-8pm
After more than a year away from the kitchen, everything in the Philoptochos kitchen closet must be run through the dishwasher. Please join us for some deep cleaning and restocking! Contact Annette to volunteer, mplsphilo@gmail.com or talk/text to 952-239-5060.

KOURAMBIETHES BAKING: Wednesday, June 9
Final details are being worked out at the time of this writing, but this will be a daytime event. If you're able to help, please contact chair Tina Menter at chmenter@live.com or talk/text 612-270-1862.

BAKLAVA PREPARATION: Monday-Wednesday, June 21-23
(Photo: Pan of Baklava)-  Monday, June 21 and Tuesday, June 22, 2-8pm -- Assembly

WOMEN'S BOOK CLUB DISCUSSION ON JUNE 8
(Book Cover)The book For the Life of the World by Fr. Alexander Schmemmann, will be discussed by the Women's Book Club on Tuesday, June 8, at church. All women are welcome! Books are available for purchase at the church bookstore and office for $18. For questions, please contact the church office or chair Diak. Alexandria Kalina.

About the book from SVS Press: In For the Life of the World Alexander Schmemann suggests an approach to the world and life within it, which stems from the liturgical experience of the Orthodox Church. He understands issues such as secularism and Christian culture from the perspective of the unbroken experience of the Church, as revealed and communicated in her worship, in her liturgy—the sacrament of the world, the sacrament of the Kingdom.

For over half a century For the Life of the World has challenged, illumined, and inspired readers from many backgrounds. For some it is an introduction to the Orthodox Church, while for others it is a call to plunge more deeply into the life of the Kingdom, both manifested and anticipated here and now in the liturgy of the Church.
