Be part of a dynamic team!

We need more hands to share the workload.  Here are three areas where our immediate need is greatest:
Website Re-design—Help us modernize the "look and feel" of the North Star website.  If you are familiar with web or e-media design, and can work independently as well as collaboratively, we want to hear from you!
Writer & Media Relations—Your writing and media skills will be put to good use preparing articles and developing contacts with local print and broadcast media.

Volunteer Coordinator—A special position for the person who likes helping other volunteers find their niche within the different task teams which are moving our Village towards Fall 2017.  You are good at organizing, keeping in touch with our valued volunteers and making sure that each task team's volunteer needs are met.

And that's not all!

Check out the North Star Village Task Teams on our website to find the perfect match for your skills and enjoy working with like-minded folks who believe in the power of people creating their future.

What about your home and neighborhood makes
it an ideal place to continue living independently?

According to Anjala Ehelebe, North Star Village Planning Team Chair,

“My Woodlawn neighborhood is wonderfully walkable. It only takes minutes to walk to fine dining or health professionals or a park or a farmer's market or neighborhood association meetings. It is multicultural and has a mix of young and old residents. It is a friendly neighborhood and I know ALL of my neighbors on both sides of my street. And every now and again we do fun neighborhood things in the park, like Easter Egg hunts, summer concerts, picnics or free movies.”

Why Friendship Changes As We Age
By Linda Abbit

“With self-reflection and increased wisdom comes the realization
that we really should maximize the amount of good relationships
we have and not spend so much time on the ones that aren’t good.”
—Andrea Bonior, Ph.D

Few things in life have as big an impact on our happiness as good times spent with friends. And numerous studies show that close relationships with friends — but not necessarily with family — are vital to our physical health, too, with loneliness linked to reduced life expectancy and a host of health issues.

But what if the number of people you count as friends is shrinking, or you find yourself wanting to spend less time socializing — is that just a normal part of aging?  When a recent study showed that as monkeys grow older, the patterns of their friendships change, we decided to investigate.
