Our Mission
By now, you probably know that we are Three Tree Coffee and we have a three-way mission to empower the farmer, end human trafficking, and engage the community. But, what does that really mean?

Our purpose, which fuels our passion for coffee, is to end human trafficking. We can't do this without empowering farmers and engaging our community.
Human Trafficking -- Slavery

According to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, human trafficking is "a form of modern-day slavery in which traffickers use force, fraud, or coercion to control victims for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex acts or labor services against his/her will." There are many forms of human trafficking including organ trafficking, sex trafficking, and labor trafficking.

There is a false stigma that human trafficking only occurs overseas, but major interstates and airports make large cities like Atlanta a hub for human trafficking.
  • Nearly 2 million children are exploited in the commercial sex trade.
  • Nearly 30 million people are held as modern-day slaves.
  • 1 in 5 women will be a victim of rape or attempted rape in her lifetime.
  • 9 out of 10 people working in pornography are victims of sex trafficking.
If you are interested in learning more or are passionate about the mission to end human trafficking, be sure to attend our Free Coffee 4 Free People Event on Friday, November 9 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Empowerment

Empowerment is the act of selflessly giving someone the authority, knowledge, or tools to do something with power while investing in them the ability to impact change. The opposite of empowerment is exploitation, which removes an individual's power for the exploiter's personal gain.

Coffee and crops have an unfortunate history of exploitation. Farmers have no representation on the market, so they are forced to sell their coffee at rates as low as $0.20 per pound. Farmers have been forced to sell their children into labor trafficking in foreign countries, despite their unawareness of the situation.

Three Tree sells specialty coffee to ensure farmers are paid a fair wage for their coffee at the global Fair Trade rate. When farmers are empowered, they are aware of their value and options, so they can choose to fight against human trafficking. We train farmers on quality practices so that they can bring their coffee up to its intrinsic value and be independent of Three Tree.

When you hear a farmer's story you are opening yourself up to be empowered by the farmer. Individuals realize that it matters where they buy things from after hearing real, vulnerable stories. This mobilizes individuals to know and share this information through relationships. This is the purpose of empowerment in life and in our mission to end human trafficking.
Community Engagement

Empowering our farmers allows them to engage with their communities and raise awareness about the reality of human trafficking, which directly helps fight the issue overseas. In the same way, we are able to engage our community by sharing the farmers' stories and statistics about human trafficking. Change cannot be impacted if the community is not involved through engagement. Three Tree actively engages the community of Statesboro and we strive to raise awareness towards our mission.
You Can End Human Trafficking
  1. Adjust buying habits.
    • Be aware of what you are purchasing and how companies pay their workers. You could be empowering a company to participate in labor trafficking.
    • Purchase Fair Trade items. All of the items in our shop are Fair Trade.
    • Take the Human Trafficking Footprint Quiz to learn how many slaves work for you. You will be shocked.
  2. Be aware of what you watch.
    • Feeding a sex culture increases sex trafficking.
    • Every second, $3,075.64 is spent on pornography.
  3. Raise Awareness.
    • Share farmers' stories and shocking statistics on human trafficking.
    • Encourage others to take the Human Trafficking Footprint Quiz. Share your results.
If you see any suspicious activity regarding human trafficking, call 1 - 888 - 373 - 7888.

We are fairly certain you missed a good time if you didn't stop by our booth at the 57th annual Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair.

You missed out on espresso drinks, coffee, hot chocolate, cookies,
cinnabiscuits, & more specialty fair items.

Yes, we are having fair withdrawals too.

Charleston Coffee Cup

Last weekend, we went to Charleston for a special event. The Charleston Coffee Cup is a regional convention and competition with roasters from all over the country.

We didn't win the latte art competition, but we had a blast, made new friends in the coffee community and got awesome feedback on our coffee!

"I had multiple people come up to me and say it was the best coffee."

-- Philip Klayman, Three Tree Founder
A Warm Welcome

We are excited to welcome Doc and Trevor into our Three Tree family! If you see either of them around the shop, be sure to extend a warm welcome to the newest members of our barista team.

You may recognize Trevor... he was originally hired to work farmers markets after his internship last year, so we are excited to have him as a barista around the shop.
