Update on November's VCSE Annual Conference 


The 2022 Norfolk VCSE Annual Conference, facilitated by the Empowering Communities Partnership, will take place between Monday 21st and Thursday 24th November.  The theme of this year’s Conference is ‘Building VCSE Resilience through the Power of Partnerships and Collaboration’.

During the week virtual events will explore key themes of workforce resilience, collaborative partnership working, advocating and influencing, and the role of Networks and Forums. On Wednesday 23rd November a face-to-face event in Norwich will provide an opportunity to come together in-person to engage with and learn from VCSE sector colleagues and wider professionals.

Community Volunteering Strategy for Norfolk

Voluntary Norfolk is leading on the development of a community volunteering strategy for Norfolk, on behalf of Norfolk County Council and the Empowering Communities Partnership. It will help us understand how volunteering has changed over the last two and a half years, so that we can develop a well-informed, joined-up offer to help groups and organisations to adapt, and work more effectively across the county to support and resource volunteering within the VCSE.

Norfolk Resilience Forum Online Learning Offer

As we move into the winter, community resilience is going to be vital. The Norfolk Resilience Forum (NRF) exists to provide information to warn and inform about emergencies. They have resources and guidance on their website including an e-learning module on ‘Introduction to local resilience and response in Norfolk’, which has been produced to develop and enhance integrated emergency management knowledge.

Cost-of-living crisis a “humanitarian emergency”


The Norfolk Community Advice Network (NCAN) Steering group have released a statement declaring the cost-of-living crisis a humanitarian emergency. The statement outlines the state of the hardship that they are seeing every day, and what they think could be done to improve the situation. A follow-up Strategic Partnership meeting about the cost-of-living crisis and what practical help is available will be held on Wednesday 9th November at 10.30am on Teams. We hope to see you there so we can do more together.

Nourishing Norfolk Network reaching 12,000 people

As the cost-of-living crisis deepens, the Foundation are keen to share news of the growing network of food hubs with charity and community partners. Norfolk Community Foundation’s Nourishing Norfolk Network now boasts 10 hubs, supporting 3.5k households with affordable food. The hubs are not food banks: they provide low-cost food, and no referrals are required. People do not have to provide proof of income to make use the service, just a name and postcode.

Advice & Resources

Making recruiting trustees easier


Trustees Week is taking place on the 7th to 11th of November and celebrates the difference that the over 1 million trustees make in the UK.  To mark the week, we would like to showcase the support Empowering Communities provides to trustees and organisations seeking to recruit trustees. For instance, Voluntary Norfolk’s new online volunteering platform, Get InVOLved Norfolk, has a dedicated page for promoting trustee roles.

Supporting trustees


Community Action Norfolk have put together some resources on their website to help with understanding how trustees work, and the role that they play in the VCSE sector for Trustee Week 2022. People are often understandably confused about what being a trustee really involves. Empowering Communities Partnership are planning to offer further free online Trustee Training session for Norfolk VCSE groups.

Household Support Fund is Returning


The Norfolk Household Support Fund (funded through the Norfolk County Council Cost of Living Support Scheme) is returning to help with the rising costs of household utility bills. This round of funding can support any households who are particularly vulnerable to increasing energy costs. This funding is not means tested but the organisation will need to have an understanding of the applicant’s circumstances before applying.

  • 9th November – NCAN are holding a follow-up a Strategic Partnership Meeting about the cost-of-living crisis and what practical help is available.
  • 17th November – Introduction to Child Sexual Abuse Awareness Training. This free 1-hour online session for Norfolk-based VCSE organisations is delivered by Fresh Start New Beginnings and CAN
  • 21st-24th November - Norfolk VCSE Sector Conference. This year's theme is ‘Building VCSE Resilience through the Power of Partnerships and Collaboration’.
