Community Access Naperville's mission is to empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to work in, contribute to, and enjoy their community. We are grateful to our dedicated staff, interns, volunteers, financial donors, and non-profit partners for helping CAN through the pandemic!
We are pleased to announce that Community Access Naperville is launching an additional program for adults with developmental disabilities. CAN's Life Skills program (maximum of four participants at each session) is designed for participants who need some extra support. The Life Skills program will meet for four-hour sessions on Mondays and Thursdays at Community United Methodist Church. Our Community-Based program continues to meet at First Congregational Church from 9:00 - 2:00 Monday through Friday, and 10:00 - 3:00 two Saturdays per month.
We are delighted to announce that Vanessa Maduzia has accepted the position of Program Director at Community Access Naperville. In addition to helping us launch our new Life Skills program, Vanessa will oversee both CAN programs and will serve as staff supervisor and parent & participant liaison. Vanessa has been with Community Access Naperville since 2013, and she is a key reason why our program has been so successful. Thank you, Vanessa!
Amanda Wilcox joins us as our Community-Based Program Leader on Tuesdays and Fridays, and as our Life Skills Program Leader on Mondays and Thursdays. Amanda comes to us with a degree in speech and language pathology, and has ten years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities as an ABA therapist, speech therapist, and paraprofessional.We are delighted to have Amanda as part of the CAN Team. Natalie Breeden joined Community Access Naperville as an Intern in January, 2021. She is currently finishing up her masters degree in social work at Aurora University, and we are thrilled that she is continuing with the CAN Team as our Life Skills Program Assistant. Thanks, Natalie!
Community Access Naperville is Hiring!
Community Relations Director: The Community Relations Director will build and maintain relationships with potential funders, non-profit partners, local businesses and school district transition programs to increase CAN’s visibility and community engagement. Additionally, oversee CAN’s publicity and maintain CAN’s digital presence.
Key responsibilities include:
Build relationships with potential donors.
Represent CAN at Chamber of Commerce, non-profit networking organizations, and resource fairs.
Seek out and facilitate new partnerships with local businesses (vocational partnerships or other).
Guide and assist parents with creating new Community Access locations.
Coordinate and lead bi-annual Advisory Board meetings.
Update website and brochure as needed.
Create and send newsletters a few times per year.
Sell CAN products at craft sales, annual fundraiser and holiday party.
Oversee writing and submission of grant proposals. Goal of $15,000 per year in grant funds.
Available to join the group when a last-minute sub is needed, or if another helper is needed on Fridays. Also available to shuttle the group to downtown Naperville destinations in the event of inclement weather.
*Availability for office hours on Fridays, 9:00-2:00. Additional 5 hours/week remote or to attend community events. Total of 10 hours/week.
*Degree in social services, communications, business, or related field.
*A minimum of 5 years working or volunteering in a leadership role with a non-profit organization. Experience with I/DD preferred.
*Excellent writing and communication skills, and ability to speak in front of small and large groups.
*Driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to drive 15-passenger van.
Participant tuition does not cover all of our staff and activity expenses, so we rely on donations to close the gap.
