Smashbox Studios offers a beautifully renovated, four-studio campus that can be tailored to host a myriad of events. The largest studio, aptly named Bigbox, is a soundproofed, hot-spot amongst event planners and production companies in Greater Los Angeles. The venue features 5,100 SF of white box space with a permanent grid system over the cyclorama. The studio also features an elegantly furnished VIP Lounge, private restroom, and state-of-the-art hair and makeup suite. The 10 x 10 barn door allows for easy, ground-level access for load-in, and can easily accommodate automobiles. Bigbox's private parking lot can also be tented, to double the size of the event space foot print.

DJ Alex Merrell interviewed by The Lifestyle Edit this week and gave them the 411 on being a "DJ, entrepreneur and all-round hustler." We loved the interview, especially hearing about Alex's creative process to prepare for an event.

Alex said, "The process of working for a set definitely lies in being prepared, but also being ready to throw your preparation out of the window if the crowd or the client is feeling a different direction. Some clients describe a more vague vibe — cool poolside ambiance, fun dance party, etc. — and others are more specific. If it’s a fashion show, I’ll often do hours of prep for what ends up being a 10 to 15-minute show, making sure that every song is chosen and ordered in a manner that reflects and evolves with the collection. The most memorable set I’ve ever played is when I played for 150,000 people in Rabat, Morocco, which was pretty incredible. I did the whole set live, which is unusual for shows of that scale. That was a crazy rush unlike anything I’ve ever experienced."

Leslie Kirchhoff played for Refinery 29 and Neiman Marcus for their School of Self Expression. The artful, school themed event took place during South by Southwest Interactive and was hosted by Kate Bosworth. The event honored influential women coined as "noisemakers" for taking a stand and making a difference in the world. Over 400 guests enjoyed custom cocktails, an interactive photobooth, and tasty hors d'oeuvres. Not to mention The Kagency's own noisemaker, Leslie Kirchhoff, who set the tone for this event with her effervescent beats. Book Leslie for your next game-changing event!

Jacques Lavoisier performed at Atlantis, The Palms Hotel in Dubai, UAE for the Gala of the Global Teacher Prize Ceremony.  Spectators and Guests of Honor danced the night away to Jacques high-spirited beats, so much so, they invaded the stage to dance beside him! Jacques can really get the party going no matter the crowd or locale!

Leslie Nilsson, Founder, Creative Director | Bartleby & Sage
In the spring, gardeners get their seeds and soil going; here at Bartleby & Sage we get a fresh stash of mini flower pots and fill them with all sorts of good things. Our favorite -- Valrhona double chocolate brownies cut into triangles, two to a pot, with some mint sprigs.

Another amusing idea we love:  basil-lime mousse in lime cups. Hollowing out the limes can be a little tricky (so get your caterer or husband to do it).  Start by cutting the limes in half and juicing them. Then pull out the insides as much as possible; use a serrated-edged grapefruit spoon to scrape out all the rest of the pith. If they become a juicy mess, put the lime halves in the freezer for 10 minutes and start again.
Meanwhile to make the mouse for four:

  • 4 whole limes, cut in half (Done! see above)
  • About 8 - 10 basil leaves, 3 - 4 finely chopped, reserve the remainder for garnish
  • 1/2 tablespoon grated lime zest
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice (save lime halves for cups (see above)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 stick unsalted butter, cut into bits
  • 2/3 cup chilled heavy cream
  • Black pepper from a mill
  • Whisk together chopped basil, zest, juice, sugar, salt, and eggs in a small heavy saucepan. Add butter and cook over medium-low heat, whisking frequently, until thick enough to hold marks of whisk, about 5 minutes. Force through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, then quick-chill in an ice bath, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes.
  • Beat cream until it holds stiff peaks, then fold into custard gently but thoroughly. Spoon into lime halves and chill at least 2 hours or overnight.
  • Garnish with basil leaf grind black pepper over each mousse cup
