Malaria No More hosted its 11th annual fundraising event in Midtown West last week emceed by CNN's Wolf Blitzer. The organization that seeks "a world where no child dies from a mosquito bite," recognized the contributions of Rear Admiral Tim Ziemer, the U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator for the President's Malaria Initiative, and businessman Aliko Dangote for his generous philanthropy throughout Africa. Together the pair were celebrated for their efforts, contributing to 7 million saved lives in Africa. Guests were also treated to a special live performance by Munto Valdo, and a choreographed dance by the Art Of Legohn Dance Company

The captivating event produced by 6up Events, filled guests with hope and motivation to make a change and continue the efforts that have lead to the organization's success. Special thanks to Creative Edge Catering for the delicious dinner and Ovando for the fabulous florals.
The Get Down boogied their way into Cielo last Thursday for the recurring legendary NYC dance party. This monthly event draws upwards of 300 high energy music fans to shake off their work troubles over the course of 3-hours. Kagency DJ Tasha Blank, is the visionary founder and resident DJ of The Get Down. She constantly seeks to create an interactive experience with music that inspires each person to live in the moment. Holding the belief that dance leads to living in the moment, The Get Down welcomes all people, in all stages, to return to their blissful self by leaving it all on the dance floor.
Access Consciousness hosted an advanced training, Symphony of Possibilities, last weekend at The Garage. The four-day training challenged participants to become more aware of their energy in order to better contribute and utilize what makes them individually unique. This class was led by Dr. Dain Heer, the author of the best selling novel, Being You, Changing the World and spokesman for Access Consciousness. Dr. Heer inspired the group to become more aware of these energies through self inspection and interacting with other participants in the room. This advanced class served as a pre-requisite for those seeking to become an Access Consciousness certified facilitator. The Garage served as a perfect location with its large footprint and clear sight lines, allowing plenty of space for the massage tables and interactive activities.

Known for continually pushing the envelope, MAAD is atop the must-watch list in the music scene. Aside from her residencies at the W and La Esquina in New York, MAAD has recently been working abroad in Toronto (@Soho House) and London (@Tape). While taking a break from globetrotting, MAAD finished her highly anticipated EP, "LE'FUNK," touted by HighSnobiety as "a loving dedication to the infectiousness of retro funk and soul," and MTV reports that it is "a collection of sexy cuts infusing R&B, disco, soul and funk with MAAD’s mesmerizing vocal." Check out the EP here.
What inspired you to become a DJ?
I got into DJing to spin my own music into my sets. At the time I only knew a handful of DJs to service my music to, so I figured the best way to get heard was to learn the craft for myself. Luckily, the few DJs I did know happened to be friends of mine and I was able to shadow them and really learn how to blend and move a crowd.

What's your go-to song guaranteed to get a crowd on the dance floor? I have a few! Michael Jackson's, "Don't Stop till' You Get Enough," Bruno Mars' "24k Magic," Notorious BIG's, "Mo Money Mo Problems" and super random, but Mark Morrison's, "Return of the Mack." You'd be surprised many times that record gets requested.

How long have you been working on this EP? My current EP, "LÉ FUNK" took about two years to create. I really wanted the sound and feel to be just right.
Aside from creating music, what are your other passions? When I'm able to find the time, I would love to dive into the fine jewelry and fragrance industries.

Where is the most unusual place you've performed? I once performed in the middle of a stock car race track in Germany. It was unusual because there was no audience, so it was all about keeping the energy up and making it feel like it was a huge crowd.

What is next for your career? Next up for me is continuing to push my current EP, while creating new music and DJing at some of the coolest parties.
