The Kagency
ROOT NYC is a versatile photography studio and event space located in the heart of Chelsea on West 18th Street. With three studios offering up to 10,000 SF across two floors, ROOT NYC is a dynamic and convenient location for a variety of events, including: large cocktail receptions, product launches, fashion shows, and auto reveals. Full building buyouts can also add access to the second floor Cafe/Lounge and the finished Roof Deck can be booked separately from a studio rental.

The most popular event space, Studio 3, is located at the street level, offers 4,500 SF and is black out capable. Additionally, Studio 3 offers a host of amenities including a cyclorama, permanent rigging points in the ceiling, eight individual restrooms, and a convenient load in through two motorized garage doors.

Air France transformed 201 Mulberry for their "Paris for Dessert" event by converting our white box space in Nolita into an Air France fuselage. When guests entered, they were thrilled to discover a fully decked out cabin, complete with screens that simulated their flight, from take off to landing. During the flight, guests embarked on a food journey, enjoying a five-star, multi-course meal with exotic flavors. During the highly anticipated dessert course, Air France announced one lucky couple would be flown to Paris immediately following the event for a two-night stay. No advanced notice? No problem. All guests arrived with packed bags hoping to be the winners!
The site of a former restaurant, the rustic and charming 210 Elizabeth was the perfect spot for Colgate Optic White to kick off its year-long partnership with country music star Kelsea Ballerini. Colgate hosted a private concert with the platinum-selling singer-songwriter to showcase select songs and debut her new single "Legends" to an intimate gathering of fans and influencers. The team at Abel McCallister Designs were drawn to the venue's attributes of exposed wood and metal accents to recreate a distinct setting reminiscent of Nashville. Fans enjoyed catering by Bareburger, a fun signature cocktail, and plenty of photo ops.
Rao's Homemade and LMS hosted an influencer meet & greet last week at EZ Penthouse in Midtown. The penthouse that sits atop EZ Studios was the perfect backdrop for Rao's to introduce its new sauce and cookbook in memory of founder and driving force, Frank Pellegrino Sr. Rao's invited Instagram influencers citywide to enjoy homemade recipes featuring Rao's products and even take a few goodies home.
The Bowery Ballroom hosted Primephonic’s epic launch event with a live performance by the Bang on a Can Allstars. Primephonic is a high definition streaming service built for classical music enthusiasts and offers a broad catalogue of 100,000 tracks and growing. The evening commenced with a press announcement and demonstration in the downstairs lounge, while guests mingled in the main floor ballroom, enjoying interactive Primephonic kiosks and a virtual reality station. Primephonic producers took advantage of the ample branding opportunities the venue offers, including the large street marquee, banner placements within in the ballroom from the mezzanine railing, and the in-house stage projection. Tell us about your company's origins?
Riviera Caterers has been in the catering industry for over 100 years. It began in 1895 when relatives open the Riviera restaurant in Coney Island. During the great depression, the decision was made to expand into catering. Later, Andrew Cavitolo’s grandfather transformed the restaurant into a high-end catering facility that specialized in weddings. Fast-forward to 2012, Hurricane Sandy destroyed the facility and Andrew, with long time friend Bobby Stern, decided to take Riviera Caterers into New York City. With only a kitchen, Andrew and Bobby grew the New York City business from 15 events in 2012, to over 500 events in 2016; including launching their own venue with Silverstein properties at 4 World Trade Center, as well as, a new 40,000 SF Times Square venue to be announced by the end of this year.
How has the events industry evolved since you began?
The industry has evolved tremendously since 1895, but since positioning ourselves in Manhattan in 2012, we have noticed a big push in creating more experiential catering. We are focusing more on the guest experience, engaging them and utilizing their five senses, has been a huge part of our culinary approach. From interactive chef's tables, to tailored dishes, to vertical food stations, and edible step & repeats - we have embraced the change and created experiences that set a standard.
How is your company differentiated from others?
We are experiential caterers, focusing on the creative vision of the client. With our in-house fabrication shop and design team, we can create custom displays that bring a client’s vision to life. Examples include acrylic trays with embedded tablets for Microsoft, a detailed brand activation for Nike and custom sleek trays for Dior. Riviera understands each brand has their own guidelines and knows it’s all about the client and not about caterer. Each event we cater differs from the last and our clients push us to create out-of-the-box experiences.
What is the most exciting thing about today's experiential landscape?
Creative freedom - everyone has their own unique identity, which allows for fun competition to constantly raise the bar or set a trend.
What are the three most important things every event must have?
A signature moment that is photo-worthy, great service, and high quality food are all key ingredients to a successful event.
What motivates your work lives daily?
They say, "When one door closes, another door opens." This all started from a natural disaster and within a few short years, we have grown from a local boutique catering company to a dominating force in the industry. Seeing where we came from and where we are today gets us excited to see what the future holds.
What is your passion outside of the office?
We are fortunate to be close with our families and share our success with them. Their support allows us to travel the world and engage in experiences that push our limits of life and creativity. From skiing and snowboarding the most challenging mountains in the world, to exploring to the most beautiful underwater reefs, we live life everyday and enjoy every moment of it.
