The 50th Union World Conference on Lung Health offered a cutting-edge, four-day scientific and community programme. Announcements made at the conference included the dramatic price reduction of rifapentine, a key preventive tuberculosis (TB) drug, and news of a promising new TB vaccine. Spoorthi Vedika: Community Connect provided a global platform for TB survivors, people living with lung disease and civil society to work with researchers, scientists and policy-makers to find solutions to lung disease. Alarming statistics demonstrate major threat of air pollution 


The plenary session shared results of a study on the harmful effects of air pollution, which start even before we are born, with 287 pollutants detected in samples of umbilical cord blood. 120 million children under the age of five suffer from pneumonia, with 50 percent of child deaths from pneumonia being attributable to air pollution. First-ever Survivors Summit held


The Union convened its first-ever Survivors Summit on the eve of the 50th Union World Conference on Lung Health in Hyderabad, India, bringing together dozens of survivors of TB and lung disease with the aim of harnessing the power of the community to create a more coordinated global advocacy movement. Read more...
