A Goodbye and a Hello
We said Goodbye to Maria De Giorgio, Partnerships and Engagement Officer. After two years in her role Maria left for pastures new. We wish her the very best in her new, exciting role and thank her for all her hard work and dedication.
…But it’s a Hello too, to Anna Maggs, our new Transport Development Officer, who will be working with Paul Simpson to develop our Door 2 Door service.
Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree
When do you put your tree up? The perennial Christmas question! Well the answer is WE HAVE! This year, our Young Volunteers have decorated a tree for the St Mary Magdalene Christmas Tree Festival. Now in its 13th year, the festival is open to view Charities, business, schools and societies decorate over 100 trees. Check out the opening times and plan your visit. A truly magical sight!
Golden Thread Project
Our Golden Thread Project recently worked with the young people at the Illuminate Youth Club in Edwinstowe. The young people in the group decided they would like to volunteer to raise money and support the Great Notts Toy Appeal. They worked fantastically hard to put on a Charity Christmas Quiz raising a fantastic £268, which was used to buy toys which they will now be involved in wrapping and distributing to support the Appeal. The Golden Thread Project is being run for one year and is funded by Boots Charitable Trust @BootsUK.
State of the Sector
Over the next few months, Newark & Sherwood CVS, along with colleagues from other CVSs will be contacting and supporting local groups & voluntary sector organisations to complete an important survey.
It will provide a picture of Nottinghamshire as a whole, with the results feeding directly into the Integrated Care System (ICS). The voluntary sector is a key partner in the delivery of services for the ICS and the final report, generated from this survey, will provide evidence of need, gaps and challenges. It will provide useful support for future grant funding for the whole sector. If you would like to register your interest in taking part please email us here

Support Groups & Activities
NEW YEAR NEW YOU!
Getting out and about in winter is sometimes a challenge. But Andrew Oxnard, our Community Engagement & Development Coordinator, in Ollerton, makes it look like a ‘walk in the park’! He organises the Ollerton Wellbeing Walk, at 10.am on the 1st Wednesday of each month. Starting at The Hop Pole Hotel in Ollerton, this short walk lasts around an hour and is followed by coffee. So start 2022 with a New Year, New You and join this happy band for friendship, fresh air and fitness. The walk leader training was kindly organised by Lincolnshire Co-op
In January 2022, we are planning a special edition to highlight all the local groups that have re-started after Lockdown. If you have some news about a group you know or are a member of please get in touch so that your group can be included

Volunteer Drivers Always Needed!
Our Community Transport Service needs new volunteer drivers to help us take people to their social activities or medical appointments and hospital appointments (where possible) We have clients throughout the district and try to use local drivers whenever possible. Drivers use their own car and are paid expenses to cover mileage.
Please spread the word within your networks and feel free to share with those you think might be interested in joining the team.
Contact Paul on 01636 611220 or transport@nandscvs.org for more details.
