We are proud to present our December 2014 Dean's Report. This report represents the accomplishments of the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities from July to December 2014.
The Front Lines:
Where to Turn for Assistance

Aggressive behavior, illness, emotional crisis and disability can serve as indicators of physical or psychological danger. The Faculty/Staff 911 Guide from Counseling and Psychological Services offers critical insight. Recognize these signs in others and know where to turn to for assistance.

Dr. Jocelyn Evans, Associate Dean of CASSH, Dr. Michelle Williams, Chair of the Department of Government and Dr. Steve Brown, Dean of CASSH, celebrate Williams' appointment as department chair.

Williams Named Department Chair

The Department of Government officially welcomed Michelle Williams as the new chair on December 10th, as Jocelyn Evans “passed the baton”. Steve Brown, CASSH Dean, conducted the official investiture and gave several kind words in honor of Evans and Williams’ service.

Dean Brown indicated that associate deans and department chairs hold two of the most challenging positions on campus as these positions are often called to face heavy responsibilities with limited resources.

“It takes a very special, very patient and very wise person to fill that role,” Brown reflected of both positions. “We’re grateful for the leadership and guidance that Dr. Evans has provided …and extremely grateful that we have the chance to pass opportunity … along to Dr. Williams in the knowledge she’ll carry on those traditions and continue to serve the department quite well… We’re grateful for her service, Dr. Evans’ service and look forward to a warm future, a brilliant future from that entire department.”

Evans and Williams began their career with UWF in the Department of Government in 2003.

Next Exit History and HRA Sign Agreement

On November, 5th, Dr. Richard Podemski signed a licensing agreement on behalf of UWF and the Next Exit History ™ app with Historical Research Associates (HRA) to execute operations on behalf of the project birthed from UWF’s History professors John Clune and Patrick Moore. Congratulations to the founders, professors and collaborators who have worked to insure the success of this application’s growth and contribution to the advancement of historical tourism and preservation.
