Only one more event left! My, how time flies. But not to worry, your committee have been hard at it and we have some events for 2016 already in place. But first, a reminder of the last event of the year.

Committee Posts
I do hope you have enjoyed those Wayfarer events you have attended or maybe just read about in our magazine. These events don’t just happen. We are fortunate in having some stalwart organisers who put on events year after year but we still need people to co-ordinate the racing and cruising programmes and to put together our magazine. We are still looking for members to join our committee.  The first year on the committee is more of a shadowing which will ease you into the post. For example, I know that Jerry Norman has next years cruising programme well under way and Alan Chaplin has most of the racing venues sorted.  In the last magazine I asked for someone to shadow Ray Scragg as he puts together the winter magazine. We still need a magazine editor! If you don’t want to do it yourself put someone else’s name forward.
Wayfarer Calendar
Do you remember the fabulous Wayfarer Calendar we had a few years ago? Would you like another to grace your walls or give away? We are putting one together at the moment and should have it ready soon.  You will be able to buy it direct from our shop http://wayfarer.org.uk/store/products/category/shop-members/  The price will be about £10 including post and packing.
At the International rally in Ireland we all had a neck buff provided. These were so well received that we now have a supply of neck buffs in four colours, black, red, blue & teal green for sale. They make great presents and even better, when someone says “What do you want for Christmas?” you can tell them “Well really I fancy a red Ferrari but a red neck buff will do for starters.” £10 each, 2 for £15, 3 for £20 inc P&P Buy online shortly in the wayfarer shop. http://wayfarer.org.uk/store/products/category/shop-members/

The Brancaster “Tidal Training Weekend” was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and as you can see from the picture above there was not a lot of wind on the Saturday meaning some of us had to be towed out to sea. Ideal conditions for roll tacking practice though.

It looks like roll tacking might have been the order of the day at Upper Thames Sailing Club for the Splashaway Trophy. It’s nice to see an old wooden boat out in front.  Yes I know there may be a dozen boats behind the camera but you just can’t beat the look and feel of a lovingly restored old Woodie.  Ok I know I am a bit biased but park a Woodie and a brand new boat on a pontoon and see which boat gets the best response.
Coming soon
February13th-14th 2016.
First of the 2016 rallies – A chance to sample some winter adventure sailing from Brancaster Staithe in Norfolk staying at the local bunkhouse and sailing on the tides both Saturday and Sunday. Full details from Matt Sharman vice-chair@wayfarer.org.uk. Places are limited by the accommodation, so book early. Tidal training as mentioned above was oversubscribed so sign up soon and blow away those winter blues. Good food, bar billiards, excellent company and plenty of laughs guarantees a great weekend. Oh, there’s sailing as well. (A bonus thought. It’s Valentine’s day so because I will be away I can get away with a card, chocolates and a bunch of flowers a day late on purpose!)

March 18 - 20th
This one is not to be missed.  The Cruising Conference at Notts County Sailing Club will be much the same format with some familiar topics and some new.  I always feel the title “Cruising Conference” is a bit “institutional”, for something that is a gathering of likeminded souls sharing good practice and passing on useful tips and advice in a friendly way. It used to be called the “Winter Weekend”. What are your thoughts on the title? If you can come up with a title that more embodies what we are about let me know. Email me at chair@wayfarer.org.uk If you have a burning desire to have a topic included in the Cruising Conference email Jeremy Norman at cruising@wayfarer.org.uk who can also be contacted for further details of the event.
July16th to 22nd and 23-29th
The international Rally and championships aka the “Wayfarer Worlds” are clearly shaping up to be the premier events of 2106 with 44 expressions of interest already in from 6 WIC regions for the championships and 20 for the rally! As a class we are very fortunate to have Hartley Boats, Craftinsure and EXE sails supporting this event and with their help we are planning to make the “2016 wayfarer worlds” a really successful event with 100+ boats participating at all levels from beginners and improvers in the Bronze fleet to experts and advanced in the Gold.
Whilst there are plenty of accommodation options for the championship week (16th to 22nd july) cabin spaces on the hospitality barges will be allocated on a first come first served for the rally (23-29th) and as we already have 20 boats entered the cabins are filling up fast so you had best get registered soon if you fancy a fun week; cruising the canals and waterways of Friesland next summer.
The  early bird entry for the championships is now open and if you enter before 01/11/15 you will not only receive the early entry discount of €50 but you will also be entered into a draw for a year’s boat insurance courtesy of Craftinsure and a brand new racing spinnaker from EXE sails and to top it off all entries received by the 1st of November will also receive a free set of new toe straps from Hartley boats worth £80 or if you prefer, a set of light weight tapered spinnaker sheets. The full entry fee is €250 per boat and this includes a welcome BBQ and a farewell supper and to encourage those who have an old boat or who have never before participated in an international event, the entry fee for the bronze fleet will be capped at €150 per boat. This fee also includes the welcome BBQ and finale supper so it’s really good value, particularly from those coming from the UK.
