NOVEMBER 2019
The Department would like to congratulate Soon Kiat Lau, Patricia Reyes-Gonzales, Lei Wang, along with students not pictured, Elizabeth Drey, Yangjunna Zhang, and Long Chen on their Fellowship awards. These grad students were honored among many others at the IANR-CASNR Fellowship Banquet held on October 10, 2019.
Dr. Deniz Ciftci and the students of FDST 499 - Food Chemistry were featured in the Lincoln Journal Star newspaper as part of the Cataloguing the future series which focuses on classes that are being taught at Nebraska colleges and universities. Dr. Bob Hutkins writes a monthly column for the Lincoln Journal Star, titled Ask the Food Doc, Dr. Hutkins answers various questions about food and food science. The October edition of Ask the Food Doc discussed the nutrition of frozen vs. fresh vegetables and the science of making homemade yogurt. Gnotobiotic Mouse Facility

Working with mice in sterile environments; preparing the food, water, and bedding for the mice and maintaining the sterile conditions of the isolators using aseptic techniques. Assistant Professor

UC Davis, Food Physical Chemistry

The appointee will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate coursework, with a typical teaching load of two to three courses per year encompassing courses focused on food chemistry (e.g., FST100A, Food Chemistry; FST100C, Physical Chemistry of Foods; FST101A, Food Chemistry Laboratory and FST202, Chemical and Physical Changes in Food.).
