Skippers Hill Preparatory School  Friday May 19th 2017
Mr Hammond's Blog

On my regular tours and visits around the classrooms and grounds I have been struck by the theme of change in the past few weeks. Along with the seasonal changes in the weather and landscape, the children are all gradually coming to the end of their time in their current year group and they suddenly look a lot taller and a little more mature!

Lottie the Labrador’s Training   Year 7 develop a personal skill as part of Challenge award

Lottie joined Skippers in May 2016 and has been receiving the highest standards of specialist training with the charity Dogs Helping Kids, to ensure that she is able to work safely with pupils and contribute to school life as much as possible. Lottie has been practising listening to pupils read and passed a recent assessment with flying colours!

Now in the second stage of their Challenge Award, Year 7 were involved in the first part of the year with a community project, learning a new skill and an expedition to France.  Most recently, they spent their own time developing and sharing a personal interest; as always, I was impressed by their initiative and the diversity of their interests.

Taking part in Ancient village traditions   Year 4 enjoy outdoor learning

Another lovely performance by our wonderful Maypole dancers on Saturday at the Mayfield Mayfair. We were proud to be the only school performing with boys and girls on our team and had several lovely comments from the audience on the energy and happy enthusiasm of our dancers.

The children in Year 4 have been taking advantage of the fantastic outdoor resources Skippers provides and have enhanced their learning away from the classroom.

As part of our Woodland Explorers the children in Years 1 & 2  have designed and built their own rafts.
They went down to the woods and came back with an abundance of twigs in all shapes and sizes.

The U13's have had an excellent start to the season having played four matches so far with two good wins, a nail-biting draw and a narrow loss. The girls are taking this fun, summer sport seriously and have worked extremely hard to improve their skills.

Kindergarten Blog: Summer has arrived   Choristers visit Lancing College

Hooray! Summer has arrived ... well, we have definitely had one or two good days and we are hoping for more! The Summer Term is well underway and our children are displaying a frantic need for sand and water, in equal measure, both inside and out! T

Last Tuesday, we were invited to take some of our singers to Lancing College to take part in a Chorister’s afternoon. After an early lunch, our eight singers were ready for the adventure.

    Congratulations Libby

During the Easter break Libby attended Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she took her Grade 5 Speech and Drama exam.
The requirements for this exam where a tall order for someone so young. Libby had to learn an acting piece and a verse. She was also required to sight read an extract she'd never seen before, create an improvisation on the spot about a stimulus given to her by the examiner and finally Libby had to sit and talk about the pieces she had chosen to preform plus discuss the Inflection and Intonation within each piece, not an easy task for anyone. However, Libby did incredibly well and has been awarded a Distinction for her hard work. This will be Libby's sixth exam and sixth Distinction
