Mr Hammond's Blog

I write this week’s blog on a blustery day having just returned from running a day of workshops at Bellevue central offices in Hampton Court. One of the benefits of being part of the group is the opportunity for staff from different schools to come together for training and development; our Emerging Leaders Programme is one aspect of the work that we do across the group to promote learning at all levels of the organisation.

Focus of the Fortnight

The children in Years 5 to 8 have been making a real effort on coming to their lessons well-prepared and with the right equipment. Raffles galore … keep it up!

Enthusiastic, determined and great fun to teach!    Senior school choir sing with 7000 children

Three ways to describe this fantastic group of budding sportswomen are 'enthusiastic', 'determined' and 'great fun to teach'! The girls have worked incredibly hard this season on their skills and team-work with a very satisfying degree of success!

Young Voices come of Age.
Yes!  Young Voices have just turned 21
As half of the choir members have already been to the O2 on more than one occasion, you would think they might see themselves as seasoned performers by now.  But, no!  The excitement was still there.

  Egyptian Mummies in Year 3!   "It's a Bug's Life" for Year 6!

Year 3 have been learning all about the Ancient Egyptians this term. They have produced some fantastic pieces of writing including an adapted version of the Egyptian Cinderella (one of the oldest Cinderella stories) and a persuasive letter to Cinderella's master asking for permission to go to the Pharaoh's party.

Year 6 had a fantastic afternoon creating some effective (and fairly scary!) masks thanks to the Art and DT Department at Eastbourne College. The children explored symmetry in the insect world and used a variety of bugs as inspiration for their own designs. They were able to use a variety of materials and the end results were certainly impressive!

Ants and Rhythm in Reception   "Un café au lait, s'il vous plaît!

Signs of spring are appearing in the fields and woods, and we have begun our new topic  'Growth and Change'.
Yesterday we went 'ant gathering' in order to populate our new, very design conscious ant house. It is a highly 'des res' consisting of five chambers connected by tunnels.

Year 6 ran the ever-popular French café on Open Morning, their monochrome outfits and pinnies getting nearly as many compliments as their French!  They were really excited about taking on this responsibility and spent weeks preparing menus and practising role plays.
