The Parks & Leisure Services (PPLS) Santa made a special visit to the Pin Oaks Community Center. The Petersburg Housing Authority sponsored a Holiday Social for Pin Oaks residents. The PPLS Santa and his elves distributed toys donated by the Housing Authority.
The PPLS Santa arrived and offered lots of Goodies to all of our After School Students.
City of Petersburg Holiday Closings
City government offices, including City Hall, City Hall Annex and Petersburg Freedom Support Center, will be closed from Wednesday, December 24 through Friday, December 26. City offices will reopen at regular business hours on Monday, December 29. City government offices will also be closed on New Years Day, January 1, 2015. Petersburg Public Library will be opened Saturday, December 27, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

 

Work off those extra holiday pounds with Sit and Be Fit & Yoga at Petersburg Public Library on Monday, December 29.

Sit & Be Fit-11:30 a.m.

Yoga- 5 p.m.

No registration required.

 

Need to keep the kids entertained this holiday season, stop by Petersburg Public Library for:

  • Monday Funday-Arts and Crafts at 4:30 pm on Monday, December (Reservation Required)
  • Open Lego Build- Tuesday, December 30 at 1 p.m.
  • Family Movie Night-The Lego Movie on Tuesday, December 30 at 6 p.m.
  • New Eve's Celebration For Kids on Wednesday, December 31 at 10 a.m.

All programs are free and open to the public. Large groups must rsvp.

Christmas Tree Recycling
Residents of Petersburg can take Christmas trees to the Tri City Regional Recycling and Disposal facility from December 26, 2014 through January 16, 2015. During this time, Christmas trees only will be accepted at no charge. The trees will be recycled at the facility. Or, residents can place Christmas trees at the curb with their trash cart to be collected on their regular collection day. Remember, only 10 cubic yards of bulky waste, to include the tree, may be placed at the curb for collection.
Deadline for CDBG Applications
The deadline for submission of applications for the use of 2015-2016 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Funds is by the end of day January 9, 2015. City agencies and private non-profit corporations are eligible applicants. This is for the operating year beginning July 1, 2015 and ending June 30, 2016.  Copies of the application form are available on the City webpage at the Department of Planning & Community Development in both PDF and Word format. Applications should be sent to the Department of Planning & Community Development, City Hall, 135 North Union Street, Petersburg, Virginia, 23803. Petersburg Farmers Market is currently in the Winter Season schedule. The Market operates each Saturday from 9 a.m. to Noon. The Market is located under the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Bridge.

Important Information for Petersburg Taxpayers
Current 2nd quarter real estate tax bills of tax year 2014/2015 have been mailed to property owners and/or mortgage companies.  All 1st quarter real estate tax bills are due on 12/31/2014. Click here for more information.
Fall Leaf Pick-Up Program Continues
The City will provide one round of leaf vacuuming in each ward. Vacuum of leaves dates are as follows:
  • Ward 3: December 18-January 2
  • Ward 7: January 5-12
  • Ward 2: January 13-16
During vacuum dates, residents are reminded to rake leaves into a pile between the sidewalk and the curb or shoulder of the road, and not into streets or ditches. Bulky materials such as brush and tree limbs should not be mixed with leaves.
