As the year comes to a close and we look back at 2015 - there is no uncertainty, it has been an incredible ride for MMRC: • MMRC served over 1700 kids with 1384 receiving our program for free. • We expanded into four new states across the US. • Our number of girls enrolled in our pay programming DOUBLED. • MMRC UK charity led by Hannah Corne in Leeds, UK was established. • An incredible team came together in the spring to write our boys program, Young Tritons Running Club which piloted in Michigan. • I had the honor of running eight-half marathons this past spring visiting sites from Sacramento to Mexico Mama Mermaids Running Club expanded to Chula Vista. • Caitlin Spohrer, a multi-year Mini Mermaid Coach, has written our new Junior Coach Mini Mermaid curriculum, a mentorship and leadership-based curriculum for middle school girls. • EspnW and Toyota chose us as one of two “Everyday Hero’s” at the EspnW Women + Sports Summit
And these are just a few of the highlights. This work happens because of the volunteers, staff, and donors who keep this engine running. If there were a way to bottle up my gratitude and send it to each of you, I would.
Where do we go from here? 2016 is shaping up to be an even bigger year; we anticipate 2200 kids taking the journey and discovering #thefinishlineisjustthebeginning and we need you even more. Help us serve even more children by donating, telling your friends about our program, letting us know about schools in your area who would benefit from our program and sending us your love and encouragement. I would love to hear from you, have you been a part of Mini Mermaids? Tell me what you love about it, those stories are what keep us driven to do the work.
I hope you have the happiest of holidays, may you find peace and joy. Please know, I will roll into 2016, and lead MMRC with gratitude and determination, thank you for all you have done and continue to do for children everywhere to find their voice. - Heidi Boynton, Executive Director

Coach Sara Saguid from PA Walsh Academy in Morgan Hill, CA shares about one of her special Mini Mermaids: We coaches would like to recognize Michelle Alvarado as our stellar Mini Mermaid because we have seen Michelle grow so much in class, and a part of that has to do with her positive attitude toward herself in Mini Mermaids. By telling herself she CAN do it, she has made great growths academically and socially. She was also the first at Walsh to finish the Mini Mermaid 5k.
Way to go, Michelle!
Cyndi is a teacher and a Mini Mermaid Running Club coach at Larson Elementary in Lodi, CA. Here is what she had to say about her experience as a MMRC coach:
I chose to start a Mini Mermaid club at my school while I was doing my student teaching. I was a student teacher at a school in Watsonville, CA. At this school they had a Mini Mermaid Running Club. After I saw this club and how wonderful it was, I knew I needed to start one when I started teaching. There were so many things I loved about coaching! My favorite part was getting to really know the girls and being able to help them learn how to love and respect themselves. After we finished the program, I will hear the girls encouraging themselves to be positive and with other students as well. Being able to have a positive influence on these girls life has been amazing. The mini mermaid program is truly life changing. I am so happy with the program and the change in girls I have seen!
