For many of us...this time of year can feel a little wild. In fact today, almost every person I've talked to has said...things are good but WHOA are they crazy. Learning how to take time and tune in to fill up our hearts to fuel us for life can be hard without some tools to do so. Life is gonna throw curve balls, sometimes it will be easy and sweet and other times, it will feel like a flying dragon that you're trying to hold on to. Filling up our hearts, minds, and bodies to do all of LIFE doesn't have to be as hard as we sometimes think it is. It can be as simple as stopping to drink a glass of water, or getting up and walking out the door for just a moment. Whatever this Spring is bringing - I hope these tips below can help you get started on a path to taking care of YOU.

1. Stop and take a breath
No matter what we are facing, we have time to take a deep breath in and a little bit longer breath out. It may seem TOO simple and for that reason, you may not think it works. It does. I promise. Try it right now. Close your eyes and breathe in for 4 counts then breathe out slowly for 5 counts. Any PERSON can do this and right away, you feel centered, calm, and aware of the surroundings. This is you, taking care of you in under 10 seconds.

2. Ask yourself what you're feeling
So often, we don't even bother to ask ourselves what we are feeling and we blaze ahead with whatever long list of to do's are in front of us. Loving yourself requires you respect yourself. Asking yourself what you're feeling and finding a name for the feeling builds trust and respect. The more you do this, the more you'll start to see how knowing what you feel empowers you to make choices that are in line with what you really need at any given moment. Owning what you feel allows you to own who you are.

3. Listen for what YOU know to be true
Huh? This is your inner voice. The one that knows you better than anyone else. This inner voice can sound like your biggest champion or your biggest critic. You won't know which it is until you spend time learning the difference. When you're feeling overwhelmed, tired, bored, dissatisfied, ask yourself, "What do I know to be true about myself, right here, in this very moment?". If we are letting the inner critic always drive our life...it's hard to love ourselves. If you notice the inner critic is in charge, search for the champion within. A great way to get yourself more familiar with that inner champion is to ask yourself what you would tell the 9-year old within you? At that very moment, what would you say to your 9-year-old self to encourage them? To move them forward in life Once you've heard what encouraging words you have for your younger self, turn them around and tell yourself now. You'll be amazed at how much you know about yourself and what you really need.

4. Stand Tall
Sometimes, my friends, it's a simple as standing up, putting your hands on your hips, straightening your back and looking straight ahead. Standing tall is LOVING who you are, how you are and seeing that you have what you need within to do ALL the things. So stand tall, take a deep breath and get after it.

Filling up our heart to feel confident, resilient, respected, and READY doesn't have to be too complicated. Stop. Look. Listen. Stand Tall.

We've got this friends.

Listening To Your Inner Strength (Mermaid) and Understanding Your Inner Shame (Siren) with Heidi Boynton
"This is where it all starts...what you say to yourself, how you treat yourself will dictate how others see you and how you SHOW up in the world. From peer pressure at any age to struggling to have it all together to distractions from Social Media and the world trying to keep our head spinning it can be hard to know which voices to listen to in life. A game changer for me was when I heard this q & a.
"How do you know if you're on the right path?" - Oprah
"You know you're on the right path when you don't betray yourself" - Caroline Myss

How do we know when we are betraying ourselves? When Siren's voice of shame is winning. Let's get to know her and not let her win".  Heidi
Join Heidi for an hour session on getting to know the two voices within all of us....know who you are so you can stay on YOUR path.

OR

Mini Mermaids are pushing through” because of Coaches Like Yanet Dailey From Simpson Elementary in Rialto California.

We know it's a big undertaking to volunteer your time for Mini Mermaids & Young Tritons AND we know it's worth it....keep reading to hear Coach Yanet's story of bringing Mini Mermaids to her new school in Southern California.

"I met Mini Mermaid and Siren six years ago when I was teaching 3rd grade in San Jose, CA. We met by chance; a friend of mine was going to start a team at her school and told me all about it. When she told me about it I was intrigued. Our school had been looking for more after-school opportunities for our girls to get involved in and this seemed like that right fit!

Not only would this help them become more physically active, but also help them find their inner voices and develop into kind, strong, fearless mermaids!!!

We started with only two very successful teams. The following year we had more teachers who came on board. By year 5 we BLEW UP to 8 teams!!! The support from the families and staff was AMAZING!!! Today, they continue to have a strong mermaid and triton presence at that school.

I was sad to be leaving Northern California but was excited to start a new Mini Mermaid tribe at my new school. I talked to the principal and she was on board right away! She loved that the program focused on the “whole” girl (emotional and physical self). Shortly after, I shared with two teachers. They loved the idea of getting back into working out and helping the girls learn more about themselves. I decided to send an email to the whole staff in hopes to get at least one more coach and was shocked when I got replies from 6 additional teachers!!! All of them approached me to learn more about my experience with the program and were very excited to have a program like this at their school. I think they were willing to coach because 1. It was something new, 2. It helps our girls with body and emotional self-esteem, 3. It’s a fun way for them to get back into working out. The students heard about it during the Friday morning meeting and LOVED it!!!! The first day I had 20 girls bring in their applications and by the end of the week, we were at full capacity. Again I think that there are LIMITED opportunities for our girls to get involved in our school, and Mini Mermaids is just what they needed. I teach first grade and I have seen the impact of the program on my girls. I have seen them resolve conflict with statements like, “is that something Mini Mermaid would say?” or “You sound like Siren, you are not being a good friend.”

With the team I coach, I have upper-grade girls who are testing and last week one girl told her friend she was “pushing through and not letting Siren tell her she couldn’t do GREAT on the test,” She told me, “Mrs. Dailey, I remembered the letter from Mini Mermaid that said I was SMART and I could do it!”

There are many more examples I could share, but one thing that is certain is that the Mini Mermaid Running Program is having a positive impact on our school community.

Now 3 weeks into the program I have some male teachers who want to bring this program to the boys at our school for next year! Parents have already reached out to me about continuing the program for next year. Can’t wait to see what next year brings for the Simpson Mini Mermaids and Young Tritons!

I LOVE what the program stands for, what it teaches not only our girls but also us coaches. I grew up not having many opportunities to participate in after-school programs, especially anything as enriching as MMRC, this is why I wholeheartedly believe that every girl should have access to a program like this at their school!!!" - Yanet Dailey

It takes a village - no matter what part of the world Mini Mermaid or Young Triton finds itself, and Simpson is no different. 89.6% of the students live at or below the poverty line, the cost to the school per student for Mini Mermaids was $10 but this is far from enough to actually pay for the program. This is where a part of the village comes in. At the same time the kids were registering, a donor came forward that had $5000 to donate specifically to kids in San Bernardino County. Guess which County Rialto, California is in? Yup, you guessed it, San Bernardino. This serendipitous moment helped us say YES so easily to Yanet and her new Mini Mermaids.

We are excited about expanding our reach to an area in California where 69.5% of all students living in San Bernardino County live at or below the poverty line...Mini Mermaid & Young Tritons messages will go a long way.

Want to get involved? Donate? Bring Mini Mermaids or Young Tritons to your communities kiddos? Email heidi@minimermaidrunningclub.org and together - we can do big things.
