Members' corner - What's new and happening


>> EuroMarine 2021 General Assembly, 26-27 January 2021, Online
Due to the Covid 19 crisis and given that restrictions might bear on international travel at the beginning of 2021, the 2021 General Assembly meeting of EuroMarine will be held online. Sessions will either be spread over two days (26-27 Jan. 2021) or grouped on a single day. Updates and further details will continue to be posted to the 2021 GA page.

The EuroMarine early career researcher group OYSTER is looking for enthusiastic, engaged and creative early career scientists who are willing to play an important role in advocating for EuroMarine and promoting the role and relevance of marine science and the ocean in general. Further details on the call are available here.

EuroMarine's early career researchers group OYSTER is still seeking further EuroMarine members to volunteer as mentors for the new OYSTER Mentorship Programme, which is to launch in January 2021. Further details on the programme are available here.


>> OYSTER survey 2020 for Early Career Researchers now open
OYSTER have extended the deadline for its survey to gain insight into the details of how Covid-19 has affected early career researchers (ECRs) in institutions across Europe. The survey will help to better understand the full impact of the virus on this important demographic within the research community, and identify potential ways for universities and institutions to better help ECRs through the pandemic. The survey will remain open until 6 November. Click here to participate in the survey.

8th International SOLAS Summer School, 7-18 June 2021, Cape Verde


The 8th SOLAS Summer School will be held from 7-18 June 2021 at the Ocean Science Centre Mindelo, Cape Verde. It will bring together over 70 students and 20 world-leading international scientists, in a variety of fields, for a combination of lectures and practical workshops.

SOLAS Open Science Conference 2022, 25-30 September 2022, Cape Town (South Africa) and online


The 8th SOLAS Open Science Conference has been announced for 25-30 September 2022. During the OSCs, SOLAS scientists debate pressing science questions during discussion sessions, brain storm about new initiative during targeted workshops or bring together Early Career Scientists. This edition of the conference is being organised as a hybrid event in Cape Town, South Africa.

OYSTER survey 2020 for Early Career Researchers now open


OYSTER have extended the deadline for its survey to gain insight into the details of how Covid-19 has affected early career researchers (ECRs) in institutions across Europe. The survey will help to better understand the full impact of the virus on this important demographic within the research community, and identify potential ways for universities and institutions to better help ECRs through the pandemic. The survey will remain open until 6 November.

UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development: Call for Decade Actions now open


The first call for Decade Actions for the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development is now open. To achieve the Ocean Decade vision, a wide range of partners will implement endorsed Decade Actions in the form of programmes, projects or activities over the next ten years. Proponents of endorsed Decade Actions will have the opportunity to join a global effort that builds on decades of achievement in ocean science.

IRD (France) are seeking candidates for a 24-month fixed-term position in the Department of International and European Relations in Marseille. The successful applicant will be in charge of strengthening and steering institutional research partnerships with a focus on development, in the area of oceans and biodiversity.

The Institute of Parasitology, Biology Centre, Czech Academy of Sciences is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position in computational biology / bioinformatics.
