>>>>On March 12, 1966, York City hosted Hully City...!! (TOOAB Issue 071).

I love the front covers of those programmes from 64/65 & 65/66 which my Dad managed to get copies of while working in the advertising department of British Rail (see centre pages for details of “Travel by Train to Home and Away matches”).

It started me off in collecting City programmes for the next 20 years.

I always thought that the picture of the Hully City player was James Bolam!!

Former York City star Ben Godfrey selected for England Under-21s

By Joe Richardson

FORMER York City star Ben Godfrey has been called up to the England Under-21 squad as part of a 23-man squad heading out to Slovenia for the U21 European Championships group stage (March 24 to 31).

The 23-year-old made 12 appearances for the Minstermen before moving to Norwich City in 2016 and has since caught the eye playing all across the defensive line this season for Premier League side Everton.

He has made 21 top-flight appearances so far this term and helped the Toffees to six clean sheets, including a 2-0 win over Merseyside rivals Liverpool - their first victory at Anfield since 1999.

There are 16 nations competing in the upcoming competition's group stage, from which four group winners and four runners-up will progress to the knock-out rounds (held from May 31 to June 6).

Joining Godfrey in the squad are current team-mate Tom Davies, 22, and former Norwich colleague Max Aarons, 21.

Players are considered eligible for England U21s if they were 21 or younger at the start of the calender year in which the two-year U21 Euros qualification campaign begins, so players can represent the side until the age of 23.

The full squad is below.

Goalkeepers: Josef Bursik (Stoke City), Josh Griffiths (Cheltenham Town, loan from West Bromwich Albion), Aaron Ramsdale (Sheffield United).

Defenders: Max Aarons (Norwich City), Ben Godfrey (Everton), Marc Guehi (Swansea City, loan from Chelsea), Lloyd Kelly (AFC Bournemouth), Ryan Sessegnon (Hoffenheim, loan from Tottenham Hotspur), Steven Sessegnon (Bristol City, loan from Fulham), Japhet Tanganga (Tottenham Hotspur), Ben Wilmot (Watford).

Midfielders: Tom Davies (Everton), Ebere Eze (Crystal Palace), Conor Gallagher (West Bromwich Albion, loan from Chelsea), Curtis Jones (Liverpool), Dwight McNeil (Burnley), Oliver Skipp (Norwich City, loan from Tottenham Hotspur).

Attackers: Rhian Brewster (Sheffield United), Mason Greenwood (Manchester United), Callum Hudson-Odoi (Chelsea), Noni Madueke (PSV Eindhoven), Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal), Emile Smith Rowe (Arsenal).

There’s Only One Arthur Bottom was first published as an almost-daily email newsletter in July 1997 and has been distributed continuously since. Subscriber numbers peaked at more than 1,100 when the club’s future was threatened by potential closure in 2001 but more than 800 subscribers, living in more than 30 countries, will receive this edition. Editor Josh Easby started the newsletter from New Zealand (where he lives today) but has variously produced and distributed it from the United Kingdom, Australia and (briefly) Italy.
Over the years, TOOAB subscribers have variously supported the club in many different ways, using the newsletter at times to share ideas that have helped the club and to raise money which has been used to buy much-needed equipment (for the physio room), sponsor members of the youth team and to sponsor senior players’ kit. Subscribers (who often call themselves ‘Arthurites’) often meet up for pre-match/post-match drinks and have arranged functions together.
