AFC Fylde game postponed

York City Football Club can confirm that all backroom staff and players will self-isolate after confirmed Covid-19 cases in the squad.

The game against AFC Fylde on Tuesday at Bootham Crescent is postponed with the fixture the following week against Gateshead in doubt.

We are awaiting National League guidance on the isolation period and will update once we have confirmation.

We wish all the players, staff and their families well during this time.

AFC Fylde's players praised for their efforts in keeping clear of coronavirus

By Andy Moore

Nick Chadwick has praised his AFC Fylde players for observing guidelines to keep Mill Farm Covid-free.

Although the Coasters have seen several National League North fixtures postponed this season because their opponents have been forced to self-isolate, Fylde themselves have so far avoided any sort of outbreak.

It’s quite an achievement at a time when the pandemic is ravaging all levels of the game.

Neighbours Blackpool reported more positive tests on Thursday, while Fleetwood Town have been unable to train all week as their players and staff isolate.

Deputy manager Chadwick says his club has taken plenty of precautions but gave most credit to the players.

He told The Gazette: “The players need a lot of praise for the way they have followed the protocols to keep the club Covid-free so far.

“We’ve managed it well and had some good fortune but the discipline of the players around the Covid precautions has been key.

“We put our precautions in place at the very start and we’ve all worked together. The players have stayed out of the building and it seems to have worked, so we hope to continue in the same vein.

“It could be just around the corner for us, though, so we have to keep working at it.”

Fylde will also be working to continue their improved form at AFC Telford United this afternoon on a day two of the three teams above them – leaders Gloucester City and Kidderminster Harriers – face each other.

Last Saturday’s 4-0 win over derby rivals Chorley saw Chadwick’s side put a disappointing December behind them, though Fylde have claimed only two points from their last five away games.

The Pilgrims have asked Eastleigh if they'll extend their loan of defender Pierce Bird (21). The player is in his second spell at Boston, having been loaned to the club last season by Notts County. Boston manager Craig Elliott says he's hoping to keep Bird in his squad going forward.

About TOOAB

There’s Only One Arthur Bottom was first published as an almost-daily email newsletter in July 1997 and has been distributed continuously since. Subscriber numbers peaked at more than 1,100 when the club’s future was threatened by potential closure in 2001 but more than 800 subscribers, living in more than 30 countries, will receive this edition. Editor Josh Easby started the newsletter from New Zealand (where he lives today) but has variously produced and distributed it from the United Kingdom, Australia and (briefly) Italy.

Over the years, TOOAB subscribers have variously supported the club in many different ways, using the newsletter at times to share ideas that have helped the club and to raise money which has been used to buy much-needed equipment (for the physio room), sponsor members of the youth team and to sponsor senior players’ kit. Subscribers (who often call themselves ‘Arthurites’) often meet up for pre-match/post-match drinks and have arranged functions together.
