The Alliance for Diversity & Excellence (ADE) is excited to announce the launch of its “Youth Voting Matters,” initiative. The program is a nonpartisan effort to ensure New Orleans’ youth have a voice in every election. A group of rising high school seniors and recent high school graduates were selected from more than 10 schools across the city to participate in a two-week boot camp. During the boot camp, students will develop get out the vote campaigns for their peers through voter registration drives, outreach, social media, and organizing transportation options for early voting.
Last week, students established a mission for their initiative called “Connect to Correct” - connecting people to votes so they can make corrections to policy. Their slogan is “2020: The Vision Has Never Been Clearer.” Beginning in August, students will be required to have weekly check-ins to provide updates on their youth voting strategy and plans for the Presidential Election in November.
“ADE is determined to empower the next generation of voters who will shape the future of our city, our state, and our country. To underscore our commitment, we are partnering with schools in every area of New Orleans and engaging our political leaders who are extremely supportive of the Youth Voting Matters campaign. We are thrilled to help mobilize our students to be active citizens who take political actions,” said Jamar McKneely, ADE President and Founder.
