Outback Jacks brings Mount Everest to you this January 5th.
If you have seen the blockbuster movie Everest, you will know that undertaking to climb the 8,848 metre mountain is life threatening and daunting and a task that most would not even consider.
Join us Tuesday January 5th @ 7pm in Outback Jacks Ballybane for a talk and presentation with Guinness World Record holders Brothers Mingma Sherpa and Pasang Sherpa, the two most prolific climbers from Nepal. They are speaking about life on the mountain, rescuing people in the death zone over 8,000 metres and how the Nepalese plan to rebuild their village Rolwaling after the recent earthquake of 2015.
Mingma has also been directly involved in many rescues, including the 1996 Everest Disaster (featured in the recent movie Everest), the devastating Avalanche which resulted in 16 deaths in the Khumbu Icefall in 2014 and more recently, the rescue of those injured in the earthquake of 25th April 2015. Mingma has a past Galway connection when he guided the first Galway man to climb Everest Peter O'Connell in 2013.
It has been a very difficult two years for the Sherpas and the people of Nepal. They are in Ireland with support from the Nepal Tourism Board to share their experiences growing up, climbing the biggest mountains in the world, rescuing people in the death zone and talking about their future plans.
To celebrate the brothers visit to Ireland, they aim to climb Croagh Patrick on Sunday January 3rd 2015 weather permitting. This an opportunity of a lifetime to climb Croagh Patrick on the Wild Atlantic Way with an experienced Nepalese Sherpa. Outback Jacks will organise a bus from the shop to Croagh Patrick pending sufficient numbers for that Sunday. Contact 091 761841 for more details. The climb will start at 10am from Murrisk weather permitting.
Everyone is cordially invited to join them speak about their adventures and experiences and ask them questions about the challenges in climbing the highest and the most dangerous mountains in the world.
