Genius Camp | Week 1 Update

image description
image description

Greetings!

Another year of Genius Camp has begun and the first week is already behind us. This year, Genius Campers engaged in problem-solving on day one while they learned about growth mindset.  By practicing teamwork and critical thinking, campers successfully solved a series of challenging puzzles to open Breakout EDU lockboxes.

On Tuesday, we completed the "5 chairs challenge", an activity provided by the Stanford University d.school, which gives young students a crash course in design thinking, empathy, and building prototypes. For the rest of the week, campers implemented what they learned to begin brainstorming and planning their Genius Hour projects. During daily Genius Hour time, campers get to work on a project by researching any topic they choose.

Campers engaged in a series of brainstorming and project planning activities and used Google Classroom and Google Docs to compose and submit project proposals. We are super-excited to have 15 brand-new Samsung/Android tablets that the campers can use to enhance their learning. This week, they will have to present their proposals in a "Shark Tank" inspired critique session. I am really looking forward to hearing their pitches and the feedback they receive from their peers.

Please stay tuned for more updates and scroll to find out what you can do to support Genius Camp and other Lab programs!

educationally yours,
