Recap: Deputy Consul General Farewell/Welcome Dinner
On August 29th, our chapter president, Teri Galvez, had the chance to see off Deputy Consul General Kazumasa Kondo. Mr. Kondo has been here in Denver for 3 years, and has been a big help to us during his tenure. It was quite an event, and Teri was glad she was able to thank him for his assistance before his departure the following day. Guests also had the opportunity to welcome the new Deputy Consul General, Kiyoshi Mihara. Previously Mr. Mihara worked in the Hawaii Consulate. He has also worked and traveled extensively in the Middle East for the Consulate. We are excited to welcome him into our Rocky Mountain community!
Do you know a standout alumni in our community who deserves recognition? Let us know! We would like to celebrate the successes of our community with a shout out every month! Send nominations to: email@example.com
Current JET Spotlight
New JET Erin Grassie writes from Murakami-shi in Niigata-ken:
"Murakami is so beautiful! The combination of the mountains and the ocean are just as incredible as I imagined and the people have been incredibly gracious and welcoming. I feel really fortunate in my placement! I finally started teaching classes last week and the kids are amazing! They are so funny, curious, and more outgoing than I would have imagined. I have to say that reciting my jikoshokai in Japanese in front of the entire school was a little unnerving, but a good chance to really practice my Japanese. I have also already participated in four festivals and danced at the Shibata Matsuri. There are so many matsuri - I can't keep up with all of them!"
