Newsletter - December 2014

This is the eleventh of a regular ‘monthly’ newsletter published to club members providing summary key updates.  For further information go to the club website at the club website.

October Member of the Month

Charlie Cooper was the HERC member of the month for October.  Not only did he run the Bournemouth marathon in a new PB of 3:08, this was also the quickest time for any Hedgie in a marathon to date, while also come first in his age category.  He is also to be found as a regular run director at Netley Abbey parkrun.  Well done Charlie.

November Member of the Month

Kate Maslin was the HERC member of the month for November.  The club vice captain has been a regular in cross countries and road race league events over the last year, with a string of impressive performance.  She has now hit a rich vein of form highlighted with a new PB at the Abingdon Marathon (3:26), which included a good for age time and also the fastest time by a Hedgie lady in the marathon to date.  if that wasn't enough she also ran PB's at parkrun, Lordship 10M and Gosport Half marathon.  Great running Kate.

The ballot for the club London marathon places was hotly contested with 20 people entered.  The draw took place after RVCP parkrun in the cafe and the following lucky people were drawn out in the first 3: Karen Rice, Richard Allen and Peter Ingason.  We all look forward to hearing how you get on.

HERC Christmas Drinks

Come along for Christmas drink on the 19th December and catch up with running friends. There will be a Christmas jumper competition, judged by myself and the ever-stylish Lauren, so get your best festive woollies out.
We have booked part of the upstairs in the Barn, and we have a deposit paid which should mean the first drink for members is on the club (depending on numbers!)
Partners are welcome!  Full details on Facebook.

Thank you to Alex Johnson

Alex has stepped down from his role as mens club captain.  We would like to thank Alex for all the work he has done since taking on the role of club captain for the last 18 months.   Not only did he put in some amazing performances, but also was instrumental in setting up the club pentathlon championship.  Jim Dunlop will pick up the mantle in his role as vice captain, at least until the next AGM.

Thank you to Kelly Wickens

It is a month for change and Kelly Wickens has also stepped down from her role as ladies club captain.  We would like to thank Kelly for all she has done over the last year, including being a key member of the team who put on Wyvern 10K, procuring a number of new club kit items, organising many training sessions and being an inspiration to those that have been fortunate enough to run with her.  Kate Maslin has stepped into the breach in her role as vice captain, at least until the next AGM.

Club AGM

An early heads up that the club AGM will take place after Tuesday night training on the 24th March at Wildern School.

Christmas Training

There will be no official training sessions on Tuesday 23rd December, Thursday 25th December, Tuesday 30th December or Thursday 1st January. Christmas day and New Years day will have local parkrun's taking place if you need to get your running fix.  Netley Abbey parkrun will be at 9am on both Christmas day and new years day.  You can find a full list of other local parkruns here:  Christmas Compendium.  Keep an eye on Facebook for any ad hoc training sessions taking place over the Christmas period and don't forget the SXCL event on the 28th December.

HERC Ladies Runners-up in English 10 mile Championship

The Hedgie ladies put in an amazing performance at the Great South Run, which was the English 10 mile championship.  Angela Rich, Karen Andrews and Claire Powell put in fantastic achievement to come 2nd in the ladies team championship.  Great effort ladies.

Ryde 10 Miles Ferry

The Ryde 10 mile race which takes place on the 1st Feb is part of the HRRL and as an added incentive for members to run, the club will pay the cost of the Ferry for those taking part.  More details to follow in the next newsletter.
