Dear friends and colleagues,

we are overwhelmed by the number and quality of the submissions that we received for this year's edition of Music Theatre NOW. 450 participants from 54 countries are a new, groundbreaking record and we are very happy to have gained such a big success already with the third edition since 2008.

Now it is time for our experienced jury from five continents to investigate the submissions, watch the videos and read through the additional material. As you can guess this will take some time and so the final decision is scheduled for end of November this year.

What did you think about the call for applications, the provided information, the registration and the application form? In order to improve Music Theatre NOW, we have prepared a little survey and in case you participated in this year's edition, please take the time to give us some feedback. It will not take much longer than five minutes and we have prepared a little prize-draw for everyone taking part.
Share your opinion on the application process with us.

We wish all of you a great summertime and a fantastic festival season.
If you have any question we are more than happy to help. Please contact us at mtnow@iti-germany.de

All the best
Christian Grammel
(for the team of Music Theatre NOW)

"Music theatre and opera works are vibrant and have the opportunity to be the most important art form of the century."

...for example: FLYWAY

Have a look at previous winners of MTN and read about their success!

In the 2012 edition of Music Theatre NOW  "FLYWAY" was among the winning teams and since then they have travelled the world, which was made possible by the awards, invitations and contacts they received at the meeting of MTN in Sweden.

"Music Theatre NOW has opened up unexpected and exciting opportunities to connect with artists, partners, audiences and birds across Europe. It's had a massive impact on the project and my art practice. As a result of being involved in MTN Flyway has toured to Operadagen Rotterdam, International Theatre Festival Varna Summer and to NOA Festival in Vilnius. Each time we have re-crafted it in response to the local spaces, sounds and species - a process that enables the work to continue evolving and growing." (Liz Dunn)

Looking for More Competitions?

The deadline of Music Theatre NOW is over, but of course there are other opportunities that help spreading your work and ideas around the globe...

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
INTERNATIONAL MUSIC THEATRE COMPETITION DARMSTADT
In cooperation with the International Music Institute Darmstadt (IMD)

The Staatstheater Darmstadt is looking for composers who are explicitly interested in music theatre.
The competition is comprised of two parts:

In the FIRST PART, a maximum of five short pieces will be developed and presented in a staged performance based on a joint theme.
In accordance with the jury’s decision, the Staatstheater Darmstadt will commission four to five composers to produce a dramatic scene (max. 20 minutes in length) for singers, chamber orchestra and electronics (if applicable). The Staatstheater Darmstadt will allow the composers to use the main stage of the theatre for several weeks to rehearse the pieces. Individual scenes can be staged in various locations, e.g. on or behind the stage. Audience members may be moved as needed and could be seated, for example, directly on stage or elsewhere.
The commissioned works will premiere during the 48th International Summer Courses for New Music Darmstadt in July 2016.
Each composer will receive compensation totalling 5,000 euros for their work.

In the SECOND PART of the competition, one composer from the first part will be commissioned to produce a full-length music theatre piece. It is planned to premiere this piece in July 2018 at the 49th International Summer Courses at the Staatstheater Darmstadt. This commissioned work can, but doesn’t have to, be based on the previous composition performed in the first part of the competition.

Submission deadline: 20. August 2015
