Dear <<First Name>>,

Another Homelessness Week has passed and it was good to see so many initiatives across NSW highlighting the issues faced by those experiencing homelessness. We took part in the Northern District Bridge Relay, please see the photos below. Justene, our Executive Officer, also attended the Manly Women's Shelter Winter Ball where she listened to Rosie Batty's moving speech, you can read more about here.

We are looking for foster carers who take young people in and for live-in foster carers, if you or somebody you know is interested, please read more below and get in touch. It is such a rewarding opportunity!

This Sunday August 28th some of us from BA are running in the Pub to Pub race on the Northern Beaches to help raise money and awareness, if you would like to read more and/or support us please take a look below.

And we have some amazing news coming your way - so far we can tell you that it involves two Manly Sea Eagles, 2 renovation room rescues AND a segment on the Footie Show! How is that for our relatively small organisation? We are so excited about this kind of publicity because it shines a bright light on our work and helps us make a little noise out there! We also love our Sea Eagles and the Footie Show so we are all a bit star this space for more updates coming soon!

We also have our AGM in October and a special way you could spend father/son time and give a special Father's Day gift while you're at it with Kids Giving Back. Read more about it below!

All the best from the Burdekin Team!
Do you have a safe, loving, non judgemental home? For a number of reasons young people on the Northern Beaches need to be placed in care and The Burdekin Association is at capacity. Crisis in the family and relationship difficulties are some of the reasons why their families are unwilling or unable to take care of them.
There is a belief that teenagers are challenging to live and work with but given a chance they can thrive and be amazing human beings. If you or someone you know have a safe and loving home that’s all you need – BA will do the rest by having on call case workers 24/7 to take on any of the more difficult tasks faced by carers.
Patience, tolerance and empathy for what they might already have been through will build great foundations for a brighter future - that they are entitled to but all too often don't receive.
If you think you can help please get in touch! If you think someone you know might be able to help, please forward this email onto them here.
As well as foster carer homes, we are also looking for live-in foster carers. It is an amazing opportunity for the right person to make a positive difference so if you think you would like to apply please get in touch. Already overcommitted? Maybe you know an awesome somebody who would be a great fit for our ethos, if so please forward this newsletter to them - we may just have a special 'refer a friend' reward system :-)
We are running in the pub to pub race on the Northern Beaches this Sunday 28th August, staff, family and friends will be running on behalf of Burdekin and raising money and awareness for our work. Come down and check it out, we would appreciate any contribution, big or small and support on the day of course, for more information or to donate click here.
BA have been in the media again recently talking about the issue of the rising number of homeless children who need crisis accommodation and asking for your help. The article includes a case study involving one of our clients - a 17 year old girl, her story is one of many who need your help. Please read the article and please keep helping us to get the word out there, your support is immensely valued.

You can interact with us on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube and Instagram and if you think a friend or family member would be interested in our newsletter please forward here.
How would you like to make a difference to someone elses life, have fun and do something new? Take part in this special Father/Son day by Kids Giving Back and you among others will cook and deliver approx. 350+ nutritious meals for the homeless and others in need of a nutritious meal. The Burdekin is one of the lucky beneficiaries of this initiative and we think you might love it as much as we do. The next session takes place on Sunday 11th Sept from 10am-2pm, it's from the ages of 12 up and registration closes on the 8th September. Take a look here for more information.
During National Homelessness Week we took part in the Northern District Bridge Relay - teams performed laps of the Sydney Harbour Bridge covering a total of 325km. Neil did the midnight shift walking from 11pm on Monday night until we all arrived at about 8am Tuesday and then he accompanied us (the remaining staff) again on our first crossing!

This was our second time and it looks like it will be an annual event!

Mark it in your diary our AGM is coming up on 10th October
