The seeds of a five-year investment to improve access to fresh produce by First 5 LA reached full bloom in late July with the grand opening of Belvedere Community Garden in East Los Angeles – the last of eight community gardens constructed throughout Los Angeles County.
As a young child growing up in Green Bay, Wisconsin, John A. Wagner once worked hard in his early education class crafting a green and red chain of construction paper as a Christmas gift for a very special adult.
In an innovative Commission Meeting on July 14, First 5 LA staff presented an update on the first year of the 2015-2020 Strategic Plan that featured key progress in the plan’s four priority outcome areas.  Additionally, First 5 LA Commissioners attended breakout sessions to interact with staff directly to ask questions and dialogue about movement forward in the Families, Communities, ECE Systems and Health outcome areas.
