First 5 LA Executive Director Kim Belshé, Commissioners Duane Dennis and Marlene Zepeda and Policy and Intergovernmental Affairs Director Peter Barth were among those in two separate delegations that traveled to the state and nation’s capitols, combining their message with other First 5s and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.
First 5 LA named Christina Altmayer as Vice President of Programs and Carl Gayden as Senior Director of Administration in April.
“Awesome.”  “Thoughtful.”   “Smart.”  Those were just a few of the words used to describe the breastfeeding and diaper changing booths provided by First 5 LA at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books at the University of Southern California on a recent rainy April weekend.
Thanks to a public-private partnership between First 5 LA and the Violence Intervention Program (VIP), in coordination with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services and the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC, major funding was provided to build the new pediatric clinic.
First 5 LA was joined by panelists Kristin Cruz, Jill Simonian, Mercedes Samudio, and Brian Himes to share tips for fostering healthy sibling relationships and helping parents prepare for baby #2 (or 3, or 4…). Take a look at some highlights from the chat!
At the April 14 Commission meeting, highlights include approval of First 5 LA’s State Legislative Agenda, approval of an impact evaluation of Welcome Baby, a presentation on measuring outcomes at First 5 LA using the evolving MEL Framework, and a report assessing children’s readiness for kindergarten in Los Angeles County.
