Thunderstorm asthma update


Preliminary Report now available
The Victorian Government Department of Health and Human Services has released the Inspector-General of Emergency Management's preliminary report on the emergency response to the thunderstorm asthma event that occurred in late November 2016.

Community Information sessions
A series of community information sessions have already taken place throughout Melbourne and Geelong, with one session now remaining. We are pleased to have worked with Asthma Foundation Victoria and Asthma Australia to provide clinical expertise and advice at each session.

State Government-funded research
The Victorian Labor Government has announced a $1million funding package which will expand pollen counting networks as well as fund research into the underlying causes of thunderstorm asthma and the best processes for forecasting these events.

Centre of Excellence in Severe Asthma webinar: 8 March 2017

The Centre of Excellence in Severe Asthma is hosting Dr Robert Niven for a webinar on 'Clinical Trials Endpoints for Severe Asthma'. Dr Niven is a Senior Lecturer and Consultant Respiratory Physician at the University of Manchester and University Hospital of South Manchester.

Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship now available


The Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship and Support Scheme (NAHSSS), an Australian Government Scholarship Program, is offering Nursing and Midwifery Scholarships for 2017. Applications are now open and will close on 28 February 2017.

Pharmacist chronic disease management pilot expressions of interest

The Victorian Government Department of Health is seeking expressions of interest submissions for the Pharmacist Chronic Disease Management Pilot program.

The 18-month pilot involves pharmacists and GPs working collaboratively to help consumers manage chronic disease and medication more effectively, in accordance with the care plan developed by the GP. Asthma is one of the chronic conditions included in the pilot.
