Epidemic thunderstorm asthma awareness
campaign launch
(L-R) Ms Nerina Harley (Epworth Hospital ICU Director), Ms Siobhan Brophy (National Asthma Council CEO), The Hon Jill Hennessy MP (Victorian Minister for Health), Mr Uday Dhumatkar (patient representative), Dr Michael Sutherland (Respiratory and Sleep Physician), Ms Michelle Goldman (Asthma Australia CEO).
During National Asthma Week we attended the 2018 Epidemic Thunderstorm Asthma Awareness Campaign Launch, hosted by the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services.

The Hon Jill Hennessy MP spoke about the importance of being prepared for grass pollen season. She encouraged the community to talk to their doctor before the beginning of grass pollen season, and to have good asthma and allergy management all year round.

Community member Uday Dhumatkar attended with his family to share his story about the benefit of good asthma management. After a severe asthma attack resulting in admittance to Intensive Care in 2010, he has taken his preventer medication every day and was well prepared for the November 2016 epidemic thunderstorm asthma event.
National Asthma Week consumer luncheon
Mr Tony Pasin MP (Federal Member for Barker), Ms Siobhan Brophy (National Asthma Council CEO), and Dr Mike Freelander MP (Member for Macarthur) speak to a patient representative at the lunch.
During National Asthma Week, we also attended the Asthma Australia 'Busting Asthma Myths' Luncheon at Parliament House, Canberra. The event launched the Busting Asthma Myths report, which shows the far-reaching impacts of asthma, with two thirds of Australian being affected in some way.

As part of the lunch, several community members shared stories of their experiences with asthma, including triggers, symptoms and medications. Parliamentary Friends of Asthma co-convenors Mr Tony Pasin MP and Dr Mike Freelander MP also spoke about the impact asthma has had on their lives, and discussed how we can better support people with asthma.
