the taste of autumn...

It officially feels like autumn.

Maybe it's because the maple trees overnight turned a rust-orange-gold. Maybe it’s because the air has that no-longer-summer edge of cool. Or maybe it’s because we had our very first caramel apple of the season.

That crisp, sweet, tart combination is like nothing else. And it always tastes best in October.

Brian and I were each transported in time… he remembered the neighbor in Chicago that used to give out caramel apples on Halloween, and I remembered the apples my mom used to triple dip and send to me in care packages well into my 30’s…

The caramel is always different, the apples vary, but the joy is always the same.

Though we've pulled out the wool sweaters, we haven’t yet fully transitioned into apple pie – drizzled with a miso caramel sauce (a combo that took years of delicious trial and error) - but those days are just around the corner…

always in motion,

fia

P.S. 'good numbers' is only available in Brian's new book 'songs of starlight' (on page 31). Which you can get a couple of ways. Click here if you'd like the book only. Click here if you'd like the book with the 'act of imagination' storyplate (at $5 off). Click here if you'd like the super-deluxe package of the book & the 2020 studio calendar (at $5 off, too)...

thoughts for the week...

There is so much going on in the world lately & it bounces seemingly with no rhyme or reason from the utmost care & humility to the most senseless violence & every  place in between. See Fia's take on how to hold that in her essay this week: room for it all...
