Dear Friends of Leave No Trace,

As we all know, the COVID-19 virus has impacted everyone across Ireland and many more globally. It has also impacted the thousands of children, communities, organisations and families whom we support as well as our National Parks, local trails, beaches and urban parks. In this time of crisis, I have been uplifted by so many stories that exemplify the extraordinary compassion, dedication, and generosity of neighbours, friends, family, and colleagues.

To our many members, thank you for your wonderful support of our mission to inspire responsible outdoor recreation.  During these challenging times, please know that we are taking careful steps to ensure that your contribution is being spent carefully, where the need is greatest. As we experience social isolation, there has been a heightened awareness of how much we value our precious outdoor areas. In these uncertain times, we must all change or adapt with regard to our passion for protecting and promoting responsible outdoor recreation. In that regard, our team have been reaching out to our communities and schools reassuring them that we will postpone Leave No Trace workshops until after the current situation improves. We have also launched Leave No Trace guidelines for getting outdoors responsibly amid COVID-19. We are exploring other online ways to make our programme more accessible for our network and trainers. Finally, we know that parents are looking for ways to educate and entertain their children at home and will be sharing our free downloadable resources over the coming weeks on our website and social media.

Remember all the most accurate information you need with regard to COVID-19 can be accessed via https://www2.hse.ie/coronavirus/ (RoI) or https://www.publichealth.hscni.net/news/covid-19-coronavirus (NI). Following recent discussions on the matter with key stakeholders, we are asking you to adhere to the following guidelines:
-    Stay local
-    Avoid driving to location if possible
-    Stay 2 metres away from others
-    Avoid crowded locations
-    Park sensibly and do not block roads or entrances
-    Follow the Leave No Trace principles for outdoor use

As we share our latest March ezine with you, please stay connected with us during this challenging time. I hope you and your family stay healthy and well.
