Watsonville Film Festival

We had a wonderful time at the Watsonville Film Festival's "Think Before You Eat" / "Piensa Antes de Comer" event this month! Over 100 local families joined us for films about healthy eating, and non-profit agencies Mesa Verde Gardens Second Harvest Food Bank Santa Cruz, CA Champions for Change, Digital NEST, and Jovenes SANOS were present help educate about local resources. And of course, Pajaro Valley Loaves and Fishes was there
to feed everyone a healthy dinner!

Local leaders, mothers, fathers, and children gather to talk
about the importance of a healthy lifestyle  within the Latino community.

PVLF Pantry Manager Vicky Caballero advocates for healthier eating, saying that there are options, such as PV Loaves and Fishes, for families to
access free and affordable healthy produce.

After serving a nutritious feast of Spinach quesadillas, farm fresh salad, and guacamole, PVLF Chef maria Gonzalez addresses local families about the importance of teaching children about healthy food options.

It was a wonderful night of grassroots organizing and emerging leadership within the Pajaro Valley, and we were honored to be a part!

Cheers to all the wonderful collaboration - look how strong we are together!

Volunteer Spotlight

Connie Terriquez

Loaves and Fishes awards Connie Terriquez as our Volunteer of the Month! We have loved working with Connie during her first month here and appreciate her full-time help. She arrives at 8am every day to help Maria start the first pot of coffee and get the kitchen rolling! You can typically hear her exuberant greetings to every person that walks into Loaves and Fishes as the day becomes busier, and her beautiful smile lights up our kitchen on even the foggiest of mornings. She demonstrates willingness to help make Loaves and Fishes shine and provides a wonderful example to others.

We are lucky to have Connie volunteer full time with us as an employee through our partnership CET (Center for Employment Training) program. Loaves and Fishes began working with CET this month to provide job training and employment stability for five individuals in our community who are unemployed or underemployed due to the drought. Throughout the six months that our CET volunteers are here at Loaves and Fishes, they gain various job skills that include kitchen experience, food safety and sanitation, customer service, resume development, and computer skills.

Connie has thrived during her first month at Loaves and Fishes and we thank her for all that she has offered us!
