2015- A Year in Review

Dear <<First Name>>,

2015 - what a year for Pajaro Valley Loaves and Fishes! We served more meals than we ever have before - 36,000 nutritious, hot lunches and 18,000 nutritionally balanced grocery bags. We worked our hardest to ensure that each of these meals were nutritious, incorporated local, healthy produce, and that our participants were equipped and empowered with the knowledge to utilize these healthy foods at home.

Our Pantry and Lunch programs continued to serve families during the holidays. On Thanksgiving Day we served over 280 lunches, a 27% increase from 2014, and distributed take-home poultry to over 400 families.

We partnered with Toys for Tots and distributed toys and Christmas poultry to over 210 families representing 498 children. This year, thanks to generous volunteer support, we did something a little special -  parents were able to select their children’s toys, picking that special gift for their loved ones. Over 210 joined us on Christmas day for lunch.

PVLF volunteers assist clients with their Christmas toy selections.

2015 was our strongest year of fundraising. Our record-breaking Empty Bowls brought in $108,000 in funding, allowing us to start the construction of our ADA compliant Ramp, install new windows, paint the house, construct a protective awning for our lunch service, and continue our work strong into 2016.

All of this and more is accomplished because of community members like you, and we thank you deeply for your support and commitment to nourishing change here in Pajaro Valley. We look forward to another strong and meaningful year in 2016!

Construction Progress

Things have been buzzing at Loaves and Fishes! Take a look at some of the recent updates:

With a generous bid from Chavez Painting, painting has already started on the Solari House!

New, energy efficient double pane windows, generously donated by Tom and Liz Phair, were installed in early January.

Bredy Construction, who also also provided a generous bid, is making excellent progress with our new ADA compliant ramp.

The first concrete was poured in early January.

Thank you to all of the generous supporters and local businesses that are making these goals a reality! Stay tuned for information about our Spring Reception and the "Grand Opening" of the new and improved Pajaro Valley Loaves and Fishes!

Volunteer Spotlight
Miguel Sanchez

We would like to appreciate Miguel Sanchez this month for all of his outstanding work! Miguel has come to Loaves and Fishes to work full-time through the CET (Center for Employment Training) program for the last few months, and does just about everything! He is an incredibly hard worker and spends his days here tackling one job to the next in the blink of an eye. He arrives each morning equipped with his signature full-length rain boots, ready to beat not only the weather, but busy dish washing sessions, sticky juice containers, and a wild kitchen! He spends much of his time making sure that everything in our outside area is in order and that no task has been left behind. We can depend on Miguel to make sure that the dining area is sparkling and beautiful every day,
complete with newspapers and salt-n-pepper shakers on the tables.
Miguel demonstrates a genuine belief that every task is valued equally here at Loaves and Fishes, and that no matter what he is doing, he is supporting our ability to operate from one day to the next. Thanks Miguel for all your hard work!

Gift from Lakeside Organic Gardens

Lakeside Organic Gardens joined us again this year with a most generous $25,000 gift!
Our most fiscally generous supporters, Dick and Marisela Peixoto of Lakeside made this gift in late December in addition to their $8,000 gift during Empty Bowls to construct a protective awning for our lunch service area.
We thank Lakeside Organic Gardens deeply for their generous support!
