Rivafest - Adelaide Fringe Festival Event
Renmark Paringa Council proudly presents RIVAFEST 2016!!!! This year Rivafest has become part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival. This is an amazing opportunity for Renmark and Adelaide Fringe as it allows us to be part of the festival and it expands the festival to Regional South Australia!

With the picturesque Murray River as the event backdrop, this is an opportunity to soak up the relaxed, laid back atmosphere of the Riverland whilst enjoying some local cultural culinary delights along with local fine wines, beer, ciders and sangria.

The unique entertainment line up features Riverland Jam Sessions as our Headline act supported by Trick.Acoustic and Adelaide band, Point 05.
We have Wilkadene Woolshed Brewery, Angove Family Wine Makers, Dominic Wines, Whistling Kite Vineyard, Caudo Vineyard and Renmark By Design Juice Bar all present at the event to quench patrons thirst and keep you hydrated. Local Government Professionals Awards
Renmark Paringa Council are proud to announce that we have been short listed as a finalist in the Local Government Professionals Australia, SA Leadership Excellence Award in the category of Community Partnerships and Collaboration.

This is for our role in Project ICE Riverland phase one which was to raise community awareness and increase engagement between community and services with regards to the drug ICE. 
We would like to thank and acknowledge the hard work and commitment of our collaborators; Riverland Regional Health Service, South Australia Police, ABC Riverland, Riverland Drug and Alcohol Services South Australia, Berri Barmera Council, District Council of Loxton Waikerie, Riverland Mallee Youth Sector Network, Murray Pioneer, River Doc’s Emergency Department and were supported by the Riverland Community Services Alliances.
Phase one of this project has and continues to shape phase two of the project which aims to advocate for a cohesive and coordinated approach in regards to service delivery. Phase two of the project is underway but still in the early development phase.
Renmark Swimming Pool and Renmark Health and Fitness Centre Surveys
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for contributing to our community consultation on the Renmark Swimming Pool and Renmark Health and Fitness Centre.; we received over 500 responses!
We will commence collating the data shortly so that when we go to tender in the coming months that we can highlight the themes which the community has identified as needing to be addressed.

We cannot guarantee that every issue or recommendation from the surveys will be addressed but we will endevour to a work with the lease holders on them.

Club and Volunteer Development
Message from Karlie Rice - Club and Volunteer Development Officer (CVDO)
On Tuesday 23 February the first Club and Volunteer Development Workshop was held at the Chaffey Community Centre. All Community Groups, Clubs and Association representatives were invited to a session providing information about the CVDO role followed with the STARCLUB mentoring workshop. We have received great feedback from the session and would like to give big thank you to all who came along and for your valuable input.
The training sessions and workshops form an integral part of the CVDO role so please keep an eye for upcoming sessions aimed at supporting your group to a path of success.
Thanks to all those who have completed the Information Survey, which has now closed and the responses are being collated. The winners of the ‘Our Community’ Subscription will be announced very soon.

Renmark Paringa Council’s next FREE Childhood Immunisation Clinic will be on Wednesday 16 March at the Civic Centre on Eighteenth Street, Renmark, between 1pm-3:15pm. Harmony Day 2016
Harmony Day 2016 is fast approaching and this years the event will be held at the Jarrett Gardens from 3.30pm – 8pm on Friday 18 March.  The Sikh community will provide a shared meal and there will be a plenty on performances and activities for the whole family to enjoy. The event is seeking local ‘cultural’ performers, and all referrals are welcome.  Please contact Riverland Youth Theatre for further information 85863437 or email.

This year’s event will also feature a fantastic cultural learning experience. Turbans and Trust is a program designed to educate the community on the significance of the turban while opening up a conversation about people, faith, difference and community. Participants put their trust in the hands of a stranger who gently ties a turban on their head while having a conversation about the history of the turban in Australia and sacred sense they have for Sikhs. Community Grants
The official opening of the 2016/17 Renmark Paringa Council Community Development Grants and Grants Information Session will take place on Wednesday 23 March, 7pm-9pm at the Renmark Paringa Community & Civic Centre, 61 Eighteenth Street, Renmark.

Update from the Chaffey Community Centre!
Justice of the Peace Services in Renmark
Renmark Paringa Council is pleased to support “Justice of the Peace” services to residents of the district.
The service will be available at the Chaffey Community Centre on the 1st Tuesday of the month and Renmark Paringa Library on the 3rd Tuesday of the month between 12pm and 2pm.
Justices of the Peace are certified to act as an independent and objective witness for various documents for official or legal purposes. They volunteer their services to provide an integral link in the judicial system.
For example, a JP may:
  • attest the execution of a document
  • witness an affidavit for use in court
  • witness a statutory declaration
  • certify a true copy of an original document
  • certify a person’s identity
Clients are to have all original documents and any copies that are required.  There is no appointment required to access the JP service and a photocopying service is available at both sites for a small fee.

Crafts at the Chaffey Community Centre:
The Chaffey Community Centre (CCC) offers a space for those who wish to develop their craft skills in a social setting. If you would like to learn new skills bring along your crafts to the CCC every Friday at 10am.

Handmade Society:
Are you busy during the week and never get a chance to work on your projects? Would you like to work on your hand made articles and meet new people?
Come to the CCC and bring what ever you might be working on! For example your knitting, sewing, embroidery, quilting and spend a day with like minded people relaxing and stitching.

Update from the Renmark Paringa Public Library
Four day Film Making workshop in Remark: 8-11 March 
On 31st October 2014,  the Sit Down Shutup and Watch [ SDSW ] Film & New Media Festival Steering Committee, successfully hosted our first film festival.  Held in the beautiful Angaston Town Hall, this film festival was the first learning disability led film festival in the Southern Hemisphere.  It was a great day - over 450 people attended to watch over 40 short films submitted from local, interstate and overseas film makers.

The Sit Down Shutup and Watch! Film & New Media Festival is an initiative of Tutti Arts. Tutti Arts is a multi arts organisation with the vision of taking the work of artists with a disability to the world.

In the lead up to our second Festival, which will be held in the Angaston Town Hall again, on Friday 21 October 2016, we are delivering 4-day film-making workshops for people with learning disabilities in regional areas of South Australia.
Our Renmark / Riverland workshop will be held from Tuesday 8 March - Friday 11 March, at the McCormick Centre,  Ral Ral Ave, Renmark.
We are keen to encourage people with learning disability interested in learning how to make films to come and join us for this exciting workshop.
The workshop will be facilitated by members of the Sit Down Shutup and Watch (SDSW) Steering Committee, all of whom identify as having a learning disability.  They will be supported by professionals from within the industry.
No prior experience in film-making is required, just an enthusiasm to learn how to make a short film.
The cost to participate in this workshop is $40 per person.  Participants will need to provide their own lunch and refreshments.
Each day will start at 9.30am and conclude by 4.00pm.
Participants will be required to consent to photographs and videotapes made during the workshop being screened for promotional and other purposes, such as the SDSW Website, the Tutti Arts website and social media.

The newly established Tourism Committee
The Renmark Paringa Council, Renmark Hotel and Renmark Club have come together to form a Tourism Events Committee with a vision to further activate, organise and attract more events to the Renmark Riverfront.

The Tourism Events Committee will focus on increased usage and quality events along the Renmark riverfront with tourism and economic benefits to the local community and region. It is important that the Committee delivers results that benefit local tourist and business operators. 
The committee have just had their first meeting and all came with an enthusiastic attitude. We are excited about the future of this committee and are sure that they will achieve great outcomes.

Did you know that Council’s trainee Fraser Peters was nominated for Trainee of the Year at the Riverland & Mallee Vocational Awards 2015?
Fraser commenced his traineeship in Civil Construction with Council in 2013 and has been enjoying it ever since. Starting the traineeship straight out of school, Fraser finds it is excellent to have experience in the field and study at the same time, while staying in his hometown.  

Fraser has contributed to many projects in the Renmark Paringa district including the Renmark Avenue toilets, Renmark Dog Park and the Riverfront walkway extension just to name a few. Fraser’s day to day duties include paving, road repairs, footpath maintenance, operating machinery and maintenance of infrastructure and making our area look beautiful.

Fraser is a hard working and dedicated member of the Civil and Construction Team at Council, continues to strive to make our towns attractive to both residents and tourists.
As always thank you to everyone for all your incredible hard work in organising all these wonderful events, activities and ideas; it makes our community a vibrant place to be!
