Renmark Paringa Council part of South Australia’s largest ever trade delegation to China - From the Renmark Paringa Council
Chief Executive Officer, Tony Siviour

As some of you may know, I recently took part in a delegation, led by the South Australian Premier, to the Shandong Province in China.

Shandong has been South Australia’s sister city for about 30 years, it has a population of almost 100 million people with a Gross Domestic Product or “GDP” value of close to US$1 trillion in 2014.
The aim of the mission was to highlight the products and services that South Australia (and, of course, the Riverland) has to offer and to build connections with possible trading and investing partners in Shandong.
As a local, it was really pleasing to see such a strong contingent of Riverland representatives also included in the delegation including:
  • Citrus Australia (SA Region)
  • Costa Group
  • Nippy’s
  • Caudo Vineyard
  • Mallee Estate Wines.
Whilst in China, I attended the opening of the 2nd Shandong South Australia Cooperation and Development Forum, which was attended by 250 South Australian delegate representatives and 500 Shandong representatives. At this forum sixteen different Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) across a range of industries were signed, one of which was the Shandong SA Local Government Economic Development Cooperation MOU which Renmark Paringa Council has now become a party to.
A highlight of the trip for me was a visit to the Qingdao Port bonded area in Shandong where I saw products from Bickford’s and Nippy’s on display in the ‘Australia-China cross-border merchandise display (logistics) Centre’ which has recently opened in a duty-free district of Qingdao’s port.  Shoppers are able to sample and purchase the products in store and are also encouraged to order them online.

Renmark Paringa Council will continue to work with our local industries to assist in showcasing the quality produce and services available in the Riverland and, with the recent signing of the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement, the timing has never been better to become China export ready.

Council Project Finalised
Steve Poutakidis was a generous man who had a passion for soccer! He gave thousands of hours over many years to promote and support the involvement of children, youth and adults in what he called "The Beautiful Game". He was instrumental in developing Women's soccer, supported many cross border events, was a real driving force behind SAPSASA involvement and held many senior positions within Riverland Soccer Clubs  and the Riverland Soccer Association.

The 'Opening of the Gates', just prior to the A Grade game between Barmera and Renmark on Sunday, 14th June, was especially significant, as shown through the respect given to Evie Poutakidis & her family at the opening. The gates are a tribute to Steve and his legacy to Renmark and Riverland Soccer.

The Renmark Paringa Council is proud to be involved with the erection of these gates as an important recognition of Steve's Commitment and drive - as Renmark Paringa Council will continue to be in future developments of soccer, particularly in Renmark.

Renmark Paringa Council's Draft Annual Business Plan (ABP) and Budget for 2015/16 and is now out for public consultation.
The Renmark Paringa Council’s 2015/16 Draft Annual Business Plan and Budget consultation was well attended with 20 people attending our Public Forums held from Wednesday through Friday last week.  These forums gave the community an opportunity to discuss the Draft Plan in further detail, and raise any queries with Elected Members.  Our Elected Members enjoyed the opportunity to be able to listen to ratepayer concerns & hear the many positive comments by residents about our special area.
We encourage all community members to read the 2015/16 Draft Annual Business Plan and Budget, and write a submission to Council or attend the Special Council Meeting on Thursday July 2nd 2015, from 5-6pm.  All submissions will be considered for inclusion in the 2015/16 Annual Business Plan and Budget, which will be adopted on the night.

Copies of the Draft ABP and Budget can be viewed at the Community and Civic Centre, the Chaffey Community Centre, the Renmark Public Library and the Visitor Information Centre. The ABP can also be viewed and downloaded on our website. Please click here to go to the page.

Change in Opening Hours at the Renmark Paringa Visitor Information Centre
The Visitor Information Centre weekend opening hours are changing!

Over the last 6 months, the Visitor Information Centre has been gathering statistics about the usage of the Centre on weekends. The data highlights that visitor numbers to the Centre drop off significantly after 2pm on normal weekends. It is important to Council that our services are resourced appropriately. Additionally due to recent changes to the Visitor Centre Accreditation criteria, and our obligations to our employees and volunteers, the Visitor Information Centre hours will be adjusting for weekends as follows.
Saturdays and Sundays 10:00 am – 2:00 pm - Additional hours will be considered for Public Holidays and peak periods such as major events.

This decision was made at the Council Meeting held on Tuesday 23 June and Council are still finalising some of the details, therefore the change will be in effect shortly. Dates will be publicised once confirmed.

There are many ways to stay informed as to what is going on in the Riverland. Destination Riverland is a wonderful website which is packed full of information on where to go and what to do. All dogs over the age of three months must be registered.
All current dog registrations will expire on 30 June 2015, if you have recently moved make sure you update your address details with Council to ensure you receive your renewal notice.

Re-registration of dogs for 2015/2016 will begin from 1 July 2015. Registrations must be renewed by 31 August 2015 in order to avoid a late fee.
Application forms are available from the Council Office or via the Renmark Paringa Council website.
