Welcome to the latest edition of ‘what’s going on in your community'! This newsletter is designed to inform the community of Renmark Paringa Council district of news/events/activities and also key community
news/events/activities which are relevant to you. We are committed to an inclusive and informed community and we hope that the new media tools such as this eNewsletter, Facebook and Twitter make you better informed of what is happening in your community.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO 'TONY SIVIOUR'
 
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new Council for the coming term and to say thank you to those who have completed their term at Council. With a new Council comes a new look. Renmark Paringa Council is committed to an inclusive and informed community and as such we are developing our communication tools to better meet the needs of our community. We have recently formed a Communications Team to coordinate how we engage with the community and to manage our social media to keep you better informed of what is happening at Council and also to enable the Community to have greater involvement in projects we are undertaking. We are hoping to engage with the community in a stronger and more collaborative way in the future so that we can all work together on making the Renmark Paringa community a strong, sustainable and enjoyable place to live.

  • Renmark Paringa Council are excited to support the ‘Made in the Riverland’ project and we would like to make you aware that the next workshop ‘Workshop 3’ which will be on Thurs 27 Nov at 6pm.   • Renmark Paringa Council’s 2015 Australia Day Award Nominations are now open and will close at 5pm on Monday 8th December 2014Read more.......
  • Friendly reminder that second quarter rates are due to be paid Tuesday December 2, 2014.  Our preferred method of payment which is also the cheapest method for our rate payers is through our website which you can access by clicking here....
     

 

 
COMMUNITY EVENTS/NEWS
  • I’m Game is a FREE interactive, tech-driven event put together by Country Arts SA, Sandpit and the Riverland’s community of techno geeks and will be held at the Chaffey Theatre, Renmark on Saturday 29 November from 2pm - 9pm. There will be interactive, experimental and cutting edge technology along with an exclusive film, large screen gaming competitions and demonstrations. I’m Game will turn the Chaffey Theatre into a Digital Amusement Park!

 
  • Renmark Paringa Council is proudly supporting the annual Renmark Christmas Pageant. The pageant will take place on Friday Dec 5. The parade will begin at 6.30pm and the spectacular fireworks display will occur at 9.15pm. This is a wonderful community event which  the whole family can enjoy and Renmark Paringa Council are very proud to support it.

     
 
 
 
  • The Ulysses Club Inc. Mallee Branch is proud to be hosting this years Toy Run in support of the Riverland Christmas Appeal. The 2014 Toy Run is taking place on Sunday December 7 and there are two start points again this year departing from Renmark at 9.15am and Waikerie at 8.45am. Motorcyclists of all ages from across the Riverland and beyond come together again this year in support of the Riverland Christmas Appeal. Renmark riders will travel to Loxton via Paringa and Yamba, whilst Waikerie riders will travel to Loxton via Moorook. All riders will then ride to Berri and then to Barmera via Glossop.
    All motorcyclists wishing to participate are welcome.  Pillion passengers must be aged 8 years and over.
    Donations of cash and new toys can be deposited at the following collection points prior to the ride date:
    Berri – A C Care, 7 Wilson St. Berri.Ph8582234
    Barmera – St Vincent DePaul, Barwell Ave, Barmera. Ph85883217
    Loxton –  Loxcare, Cnr Drabsch and Pyap Sts, Loxton. Ph85846954
    Renmark – Chaffey Community Centre, Nineteenth St, Renmark. Mondays and Tuesdays.
    Waikerie -  The Salvation Army, Waikerie Community Centre,  Crush Tce. Waikerie. Ph 85412081.
    A collection vehicle will accompany the motorcycles to receive donations on the day.

  • Fire Ban season began on Saturday November 15. To stay up to date with information regarding what you can or cannot do during fire ban season please go to the CFS website.
     
  • Country Arts SA is supporting the 5,000 Poppies project and Chaffey will be the collecting poppies and sending them on to be included with the main display on Anzac Day 2015 at Federation Square in Melbourne. A Melbourne based duo are on a mission to create a field of more than 100,000 handcrafted poppies in Federation Square in Melbourne on Anzac Day 2015 for the Anzac Centenary Commemoration.  The poppies will be a nationwide crafting community tribute to Australian servicemen and women and their families for their service and sacrifice in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations over the last 100 years.  For more information please contact Sharlene at the Chaffey Theatre on 8586 1800.

CHILDREN/YOUTH

  • Renmark Paringa Council’s next FREE Childhood Immunisation Clinic will be held on Wednesday 17th December at the Civic Centre on Eighteenth Street, Renmark, between 1pm-3:15pm. To book your child in, please call the Council Office on 8580 3000. The dates for all upcoming clinics can be found on Council’s website.
 

HEALTH AND WELL BEING

  • Looking to donate blood? Well you can on Tuesday November 16 and Wednesday November 17 at the Greek Orthodox Hall in Renmark. For more information please click on the picture to bring you to the Australian Red Cross Blood Service website.

ENVIRONMENT

  • The Chowilla Twilight Tour will take place on Thursday November 27 from 4pm-8pm. For more information go to our latest news on our website by clicking here....
 


 
  • Renmark Paringa Lyrup Bush Friends are meeting again and they want you involved.  All are welcome on the evening of Saturday November 29 to retrieve any remaining fox baits and to survey for bush-stone curlews on the Pike floodplain.  Weather permitting, please meet at the Paringa store car park at 7 pm. (please be advised that the activity will not proceed if 5 mm or more of rain occurs in the 2-3 days beforehand and/or it is extremely windy). It is expected that this activity will last for approx. 2 hours. Please bring a torch/head torch and wear warm clothes, a camp chair, snack and something to drink.
    If you do not have access to a 4wd or high clearance vehicle please advise Elizabeth or Matt know so they can arrange for you to share transport with someone who does.. You may contact Elizabeth on 0401 552 588 and Matt on 0458 427 576.


     

EDUCATION

  • Riverland Division of General Practice are proud to support '2 Achieve’ which will start in February 2015. The program will run for 7 consecutive weeks and is aimed at adults 17+ who are unemployed and not currently enrolled in study. The aim of the program is to increase participants confidence, literacy and numeracy and better prepare them for further study and employment. If you or you know somebody who is interested in finding out more about this course please contact Rebecca Flack on 85823823.
